New Merlin on BBC

^ Yeah, Arthur grew a lot in this episode--hopefully it sticks.

Next week's does look interesting...

It was good to see Uther taking his humiliation in good part. I think the scripting sometimes makes him too much of a miserable git.

Yeah, I don't think they play up enough that, at one point at least, he used to be a good man.

I agree Starks and Decker. I hope the next episode isn't a big reset again. You can have a light hearted time and yes there were some character moments to carry on. It seems Uther might be ultra nasty against magic after his being dupped by the troll!

Thought Charles Dance was good this week as the Witch Finder. Why do they always kill off, or under use the guest stars though?

The whole thing reminded me of the "Witchsmeller Pursuivant" episode of BlackAdder S1...:D

BTW - I don't always watch the show, so I have to ask...is Uther always this dense and easily manipulated? I did like the bit where Gaius admonished him at the end.

Pretty much, as soon as witchcraft or sorcery comes up he's blinded by his hate.

After last week's comedy episode a much darker episode, Charles Dance was very good, could Morgana have looked any shiftier though?

Thought the scene at the end between Uther and Gaius was very nicely handled, good work by both Head and Wilson.

Best bit, as usual, revolved around Arthur and Merlin. When the witchfinder said Merlin was the sourcerer and Arthur goes "Merlin?"

Tonight's was pretty good. I liked that the Dragon couldn't help Merlin for once and really liked the scene at the end where Gaius told Uther he'd had enough of his crap. My only complain is that they're still underusing Morgana and she's gone all simpering and useless. She should have been helping Merlin save Gaius along with Gwen.

I'm glad this one is having a better response than the comedy two parter. Why do they always wait for the heavy episodes and put them in the latter half of the season? Makes the show a little enough even.

And I agree about the guest stars. They've had enough great players. They could have had a special guest player a season and really brought thought to full development. Every player this season alone could have gone of for three episodes. Why not let Morgana sneak out regularly to be with Colin Salmon and the druids? Then have a trial with the witchfinder over a few eps? I like Merlin but I still think it needs to step it up a notch and compete with the shows around it.

Great episode. It was nice to see Gaius stand up to Uther. He didn't pull any punches either. The next episode seems to hint that Arthur is going to call out Uther on his stance against magic too, so I wonder if the writers are planning to soften Uther up. Make him likable just before they kill him off.

I liked it! Nice that there's a little rift between Uther and Gaius now. I hope it isn't' forgotten soon-like the troll was! Not enough Morgana again, I think, though. This could have been a two parter, too.

it's odd to compare a family show to The Tudors, but that's a 50 + minute show, even if they only do 10 eps or less a season. In Merlin's 13 ep, 45 minute shows, it doesn't seem like everything is there. It'd be nice if the shows could be longer, or if they could oepn and close each season with a mini movie or special supersize or something. Yes it's a family show and keep it light hearted, but give the characthers their full depth.

Why do they waist the first 4 or 5 eps on cliche and stunt stories when there's so much to develop and tell? Next week looks very good indeed. I'd liek to see how this upcoming Morgause and Vivian tie together. Which one do they plan to be the Lady of the Lake? and Arthur is going to find out he's got a touch of magical parentage perhaps? Will this soften the confession that Merlin's a warlock? Woohaaa.

I really liked the way Arthur joked when the witchfinder poitned to Merlin. Later int eh series, I could picture a great moment where Merlin confesses he's a sorceror, and Arthur can say, 'Is that all? I thought you were gay!' and walk away. Slash people would love that.

Oh yes...really looking forward to this episode! Gonna be a great weekend. Millie Fox in Merlin Saturday then new Who sunday!

Squee!!!!!

good. and she survived.

for once, i actally found Ms. Fox attractive.

going to be interesting seeing how it all pans out...

Hawt Damn! I think this might be the best episode yet. I thought Season 1's To Kill a King was the best previously, because it dealth with bertrayal and family history and court issues. AT first this one seems like a lot of the other eps, beginning with the gauntlets and fights, but quickly turns into something else. Lots of family troubles at court, eh? Everyone is interconnect! Nice to see some support with potential to return, Morgause, Sir Geoffrey, and this Leon!

Loved the illusion to Merlin's father!

I'm watching it, and enjoying it, but I can't get over why they are even indulging this woman when she callously murdered 5 guards just walking in!

Everybody has asked her why she wants to fight Arthur, but nobody has asked why she slaughtered 5 people instead of just asking to see the King.
