New Merlin on BBC

Here's the link to Merlin's imdb forum . It's still filled with a lot of 'OMG! I heart Merlin!' drivel, but there some links and good thoughts. I've only found a few other juvenile websites dedicated to Merlin. Why isn't there more internet fandom? Or even news at all for that matter-notice the imdb newsdesk hasn't had anything new since the season began.

Frankly, I thought it sucked this week, certainly the worst of the season so far, which is a shame after a couple of episodes of much improved storytelling.
Only Merlin really got any screen time at all of the regular cast, and he seemed remarkably easily persuaded to perform magic in front of the whole royal court. The troll and her servant were the most stereotypical cackling villains I've seen outside a kid's cartoon in a good long while. It also made no sense at all that she didn't give Uther the medallion straight away.
Also, I had an issue with the central message of the story, external beauty is equal to trustworthiness, ugliness is equal to evil. A very childish concept to have central to a two part story, imho.

HEY! Starkers! whathername Fox's episode is on November 14. She's playing a sorceress called Morgause.

Ta :)

I liked this week's. Agree that Parrish obviously had a lot of fun playing the role. Loved the brief Merlin/Arthur interaction we got, and Gaius going to tell Uthur that his bird was a Troll was wonderful.

I liked it. I thought Parrish looked great and all in good fun. Perhaps this wasn't the right storyline for our first special magical two-parter, but the adult cast was great. Although you know me. They could have played a much more evil troll/romance with Uther storyline over an entire season, slowly making trouble at Camelot, but at least their branching out with two parters. Maybe next time we can have something serious.

Special eps on individual characters is nice, but I do prefer the more ensemable feelings as in early episodes. Everyone had a factor in the episode-I don't think Gwen even spoke or Morgana this ep.

On some of the other forums they are complaining that the show isn't focusing on the Arthur Merlin relationship and all its slash potential. But there's more to the show then teeny bopper slash!

yes they did. Gwen had a conversation with Arthur about his standing up to Uther (which i liked. both the convo and him doing it) Morgana was with Uther and Arthur when Catrina was exposed and supplied the spluttering Arthur with 'stinking' as an adjective.

i enjoyed it. maybe it was a tad panto, but it was still good. loved the Dragon's  at Uther and Merlin's ' wind it up' expression.

I think he was talking about episode 1.
Yeah I liked that part too.

well, Morgana spoke in Part 1, when she and Arthur left Catrina and Uther alone after dinner. Don't think Gwen did.

i pay attention to Morgana's scenes since Katie McGrath's hotter than a nova at noon.

I liked Part 1, it was fun. I'm glad to hear people came around for Part 2. I like Morgana, too, and wish there was more of her-but that's to come. I'm glad Uther got his bit of fun. I do think the writers can do more bottle episodes and flesh out the happenings at court more rather than the villain of the week formula. We'll see. I have to wait awhile to watch!

I liked it! It was all in good fun-I wonder if they timed it for Halloween? There were a lot of nice character moments and humor. Glad Uther got a bit of what he deserved, and yet there was still some shuddering jokes about his relationship along with suspense during the showdowns. Again a little short on the girls, but Gwen had that nice moment with Arthur.

I agree that Geoffrey of Monmouth and the other knights in this council need more time to play. Even if the show wants to go out for big guest stars, I still think Camelot really needs a core of recurring players. Odd though, because right now it seems like Gwen and Morgana are merely minor players. We know that changes from ep to ep, of course, but someone just tuning in for this would be like 'who are these people?'

I hope the next episode doesn't forget this little marriage.

Did you see the second season of The Tudors? McGrath is one of Henry's sexual conquests; it's either episode four or five. It's handled rather tastefully, but you still see a lot of her.

no. dammit. i know her showbiz career started as a wardrobe assistant on The Tudors. then she got the bit-part, then joined Merlin.

Loved this episode even more than the first one, especially once she was revealed as a troll to everyone but Uther!

Best bit though? Merlin attempting to hug Arthur, comedy gold!

I agree the awkward humor was played well all around. I loved Gaius' little 'Poison-er potion' quip. The hug not was too funny, it reminded me a lot of Bayliss and Pemberton on Homicide. Now I don't think Merlin is on that scale, just yet, but if the writers even themselves out Merlin could have that kind of special wit.

The next episode looks Merlin and Morgana magic serious though. Rather than hunting through all the Tudors, you can find her clip on youtube. I love the Tudors and didn't connect her when I first saw Merlin. I wonder if she's doing some of her own costumes or if she's too special for that now. I liked the gold and white gown she was wearing at the coronation. Last season Morgana had like 4 dresses, now we never see the same gown twice! And I think Gwen wore something new in her one scene, too.

I sew so I go through phases where I look at shows purely for the costumes!

This episode did not not add anything to the characters particularly, except Arthur standing up to his Dad proper for the first time, but it was fucking funny.

It seemed to me the main character points in this episode were Arthur standing up to his dad and Athur proving himself to be trust worthy and a true friend to Merlin by warning him and helping him escape when Uther ordered him captured.

I'm hoping something will come of this next week with the witch finder.
