New Look Daleks Revealed

The new Daleks do have a lot of similarities with the Daleks from way back in 1964, they got back the original two band strip going around their midsection rather than the later 1970s vertical panels(Although the strips are much more pronounced in the new versions), the deep skirt round the bottom is very similar to the 1964 Daleks as is the height of the new Daleks, the track on their back i assume might be similar to the dish on the back of the 1964 Daleks(But don't quote me on that, it could be something we wont find out about till later), they also got back the small extra flourish desigen behind the eye stock just like the 1964 Daleks...

Apparently they have been redesigned for health and safety reasons, so that the operator has more space.

I'd like to think that there is some 'cool' new ability tied in with the new dalek look... the back has an interesting new feature, and they almost look like they could 'split'.

Also, lol@that set trying to pass off as a Dalek ship. Did they destroy all the bits of set from Parting Of The Ways? Good 'ol BBC.
Consider how concerned Moffat said he was about things looking pony, he's certainly not doing well on that front.
everyone complained about the new look TARDIS when the first set photos came out
Did they? Why?

"It's too new!"

"It looks like a Toy!"
I was among the naysayers with regard to the set photos of the new Tardis, and I'm happy to say it does actually look fine on screen. These Daleks, on the other hand, look just as bad in the episode. Fisher Price dodgems.

I wonder what the regular 'grunts' will look like? The ones seen in Victory.. seem to represent a kind of 'executive council' - the Dalek Supreme even has that cool voice of the Emperor Dalek which we also hear in Evil of the Daleks & Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways (and in some of the audios, like the Dalek Empire series).

Though apparently the red one is identified as 'Drone', so perhaps they will all look like him? Shame, they should have kept red as the colour for Dalek pilots! :)

you didnt watch the episode did you?

"Location: Dubuque, IA"

It's a good bet that he hasn't seen it yet, since it doesn't debut for another two weeks here.

Well, two weeks and a day since I don't have BBCA and have to get them off of iTunes.
sorry I think my post was not called for, I forgot for a moment that no everyone pirates an episode from the internet.

It is also pretty clear that they are a new model Daleks, as has been discussed in this thread.

Someone over on the evil DW board posted the original design sketch. I think someone in the prop department wasn't paying attention.

The back isn't hunched, the head is a bit larger compared to the body and the taper of the midsection matches the taper of the skirt, unlike the prop where all those details are different. The drawing is a lot closer in profile to the classic Dalek look.

Exactly.

I also think the larger plunger in the art helped alleviate the "massive body" feel of the prop.

ETA: In fact, while all the lines agree on the drawing, there's actually two sets of broken lines on the prop:

I also like how the base, middle piece and back brace are all one piece. Gave the original design a feeling of solidity and strength.

What really sucks is that they've already built five of the damn things. If they'd played it safe and only done the white one, then used digital effects for the others, there'd at least be a hope that they could haul it back into the shop and redo it properly.

People really do bitch about anything. If you're honestly trying to say the concept art doesn't have a hunched back, too, you're only deluding yourself. Your lines are also very arbitrary and nonsensical. The only difference between the two is some minor scaling.

But to each their own. They look perfectly fine to me.
