New Look Daleks Revealed

we did need to make the new bigger Daleks, I think it quite dumb to make them the height of Billie Piper, Amy pretty much had to get down on one knee to speak to the Dalek, even then the Dalek had to look up to see her face. (god whos taller, Amy of Zsa Zsa?)

that said I think Dalek Supreme was bigger than the average Dalek.

Still the show could not have gone on if Amy Pond continued to tower over the Daleks, it would have looked silly.

Health and Safety is one of those things that's probably gone too far in modern society, but that doesn't mean we should turn back the clock to when builders had to wander along girders 350 ft in the air without safety harnesses ;)

Couldn't they just make them fully robotic and remotely controlled? Or is that cost prohibitive?
Ask yourself one question: Would you rather control a Dalek with a remote control or be inside the thing chasing things?

The design is growing on me, I especially like the organic eye in the eyestalk.

And God knows the BBC is going to have to shutter the studio the second Doctor Who does something that looks silly.

Personally I'd prefer to be in the thing but if they have to make the design aesthetically displeasing in order to fit in an operator comfortably then I'd prefer them to be remotely controlled and thinner.

God help me, everytime I look at them I think 'panto horse'.

So what do you suppose they keep back there in the truck (i.e. 'the boot' for our english members')?

Davros? Perhaps it's copies of Davros inside if it was based off his DNA?

Cutter, thanks for posting your pictures. I agree with rationale and think your changes look great!! :)

Well, I always thought Maria on Sesame Street in the early 80s was pretty hot stuff.

Sadly, she never dressed up in a micro-mini cop outfit or handcuffed a guy.

Of course, it's just to sell toys. Same reason for all the colours; so bratty children will bug their parents to buy them all. But how they can go from a perfectly modernised design no one disliked (well, some colours other than chavbling gold would have been nice, but...) to these utter monstrosities is beyond incompetence. Or, in Moffat parlance: they should be clubbing these people to death.

Yeah it probably doesn't hurt that children will embrace this new design, but I really doubt it was the main reason behind it.

From everything I've seen and read, Moffat and Gatiss were genuinely huge fans of the larger, more colorful Peter Cushing Daleks and wanted to bring them back. Having finally watched those movies myself, I kinda have to agree with them.

They're bold, dramatic, and very "classic scifi". Frankly I'm surprised more scifi fans aren't embracing them. Must everything today always be so "gritty and realistic"?

I have nothing against the color, but I don't like the hump on the back; it looks stupid.

If they'd actually looked like the movie Daleks, I'm sure most would've been thrilled.

Unfortunately, the ones they've given us look like shit.

It looks different, but frankly the original design didn't strike me as all that aesthetically pleasing either. The Daleks have ALWAYS had a pretty awkward-looking design.

We were just more used to the previous one, is all.

TBH I think Daleks are a design icon of British culture, but not really because they are a good design, we only think its a good design becasue its such a big part of our culture.

Same for K9, its a rubbish design, but god help anyone who would dare to change K9 or the Daleks, they lynched in the street, or at the very least on Doctor Who forums.

I assume there is a reason for the back looking like it does, and I will wait for Moffatt to tell me what it is, before I start making fanart based on how I think the Daleks should never be changed, or in any way be different, from the previous design of Daleks.

That said so far I like the RTDsDaleks better ;)

I imagine the "hump" is just to make them look a bit beefier and give them more the feel of a big, roving tank. Which is definitely the feeling I get from them.

The original design always looked cool from the front, but the way it tapered so severely from the side always looked a bit goofy to me. And a lot less intimidating.

Maybe the reason for the hump and thingy-majig at the back is that a smaller dalek comes out or one of the spider daleks of the fanfic/art world.
