New Look Daleks Revealed

God help me, everytime I look at them I think 'panto horse'.

So what do you suppose they keep back there in the truck (i.e. 'the boot' for our english members')?

"Does-this-casing-make-my-butt-look-big?"

FUGLY! That's what I call the multi-colored daleks. They look deformed and bent over or something.

I was thinking Power Ranger Daleks myself.

Thanks to last night's (really, really weak) episode, we got to see them from all sides and... I don't like these Daleks at all. Other than Moffat putting his stamp on the series (and he's certainly entitled to), there was no reason to re-design them. The more I see them, the less I like them.

The Daleks have never been elegant at the best of times, but these made a special effort to look crap.

Also, lol@that set trying to pass off as a Dalek ship. Did they destroy all the bits of set from Parting Of The Ways? Good 'ol BBC.

<sarcasm> One great aspect about the Internet is that people can endlessly speculate and criticize before viewing the subject at hand. </sarcasm>

They'vebeen redesigned almost as much as the Cybermen were in the old series, yet the Cybermen evade change this time round.

The new Daleks look like some of the toy daleks from the 60s. Basically right, but so very very wrong...

"Fans knew product placements in Dr Who had gone to far with the creation of the Daleks known as "The Cult Of Crayola"

or

Daleks in unison: "We here, we're Kaled get used to it"

or

The prop dept would never live down the day they let pre-school class field trip help them.

everyone complained about the new look TARDIS when the first set photos came out
Did they? Why?

"It's too new!"

"It looks like a Toy!"

I was one of the complainers and the same "complaint" holds true for these new Daleks. However, I see now that Moffat has a fondness for this brightly colored, toy-like aesthetic--it's all over the new TARDIS control room--and, while it's not what I would have done, I see its appeal.

Are my eyes fooling me or are the colored daleks a different model than the two on the left?

After having seen the new Skittle Daleks in action, my theory is that these five multi-colored Daleks are merely going to be the "Dalek Parliament" so to speak. I bet next time we see the Daleks they will have created a new army of more conventional old school Daleks.

Other than to dwarf even Matt Smith, I assume the new Daleks are larger to better accommodate drivers, judging by comments in the latest Confidential about how cramped they used to be. I like some of the changes. The new eye stalk and the jets in the back, or whatever. The white one's badass voice. Other changes cheapen and undersell the design though, to the point that I cannot take the interviewees seriously when they say they consider these ones scarier - the color scheme and the general smoothness of them. Still, they don't look bad in motion, the hump is not that much of an issue, and the colors, as unscary as they are, do look delightfully retro, a direction of MattWho I'm grudgingly coming to terms with.
