Spoilers New Kirk series (SNW spoilers)

Ephraim and Dot's Enterprise has the wrong windows so it's already been contradicted. Thankfully! There's basically nothing in Trek I hate more than that cartoon. Well, except maybe The Outrageous Okona and a couple of the later Ferengi episodes.

And the Refit Enterprise's exterior would only need changing for the sake of change, or to sell new toys. Even I admit that the TOS ship would need a more impressive finish to its hull, maybe a few minor tweaks, but c'mon the Refit is perfect and timeless.

I used to imagine Bruce Campbell would make a good Kirk in this era.

I wouldn't half mind seeing him in Trek (assuming he can actually play it straight for once), just not as Kirk.

Although wasn't he offered a role on DS9 - Jack from the "Jack Pack", if I'm not mistaken - and he turned it down? So he may not exactly be all that excited to do Trek.

If they do it I'd prefer a show set during the second five year mission between Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan. Plenty of room for a show there and less likely to step on TOS' toes.

I always preferred New Voyages//Phase II

Worse we got from him were tantrums and changing his mind after he decided to develop into Phase II, use elements from the lost series and lean towards the movies/TNG...

If you want insights into the making of NV/PII, I highly recommend MAKING FAKE STAR TREK by Andy Bray (@Andy Bray played Chekov for a bit) and John Lim (played Sulu for a bit). There are two books, the first covers "To Serve All My Days" while the second one "World Enough and Time". It's a fun easy read. Very funny with all the dirt.

As for a new Kirk show... it's inevitable. TOS is still the most recognized TREK worldwide. It still outsells all other merchandise and books. Based on my recent entertainment biz course, I'd speculate that factored in Paramount's decision to continue the Kelvin movies rather than go with an entirely new cast of characters.

I say bring Kirk and the rest back on the original five-year mission. Plenty of adventures there. Also cause it's a goal of mine to write for that crew. And I'm working hard to make it so.

Eh...it's hit and miss. I am more thinking of a comic that I read where we saw the obvious changes and movement towards the TMP uniforms and equipment as well as plans for the upgrade. Not a great comic but the idea always stuck with me.
I remember the DC Comics did that for the end of the Five-Year Mission, where Will Decker came aboard, dressed in the TMP-style uniform, Uhura asking about it and saying something about her approving of it since it wasn't a mini-skirt!
It was a nice transition that pointed toward TMP. I just don't know how much you can do with that, since Kirk will be Chief of Operations, Spock leaving, McCoy retiring, etc.

On another note, I don't see a problem with using the familiar characters over time. Sometimes you will sit and listen to stories told by the ones you're most comfortable with!

I love that Annual. It was the second one, whereas the first Annual covered their very first mission! While I cracked up on the Uhura comment, Nichelle Nicholas actually asked for the miniskirt back in Star Trek III, V, and VI. She preferred the mini look.

The 5YM is the default Trek goes back to. Has been since Enterprise was cancelled. Apparently the decision to do Kelvin 4 was the result of market research.

They could do the events leading up to Season 1, during the mission or finally a definitive canon Year 4 and 5. I guess production would still use the new aesthetic from DSC/SNW rather than replicate the 60s like NV/Continues?

Yes, they would. They are selling to an audience now, not back then.
Good, I prefer this. Never been crazy about the TOS aesthetic (always preferred the movies and beyond) SNW look beautiful, with the VR wall and all.

How would you pitch such a show?

Yeah, she should have asked if there was a skirt variant.

Thanks for asking!

Build some solid samples of screenwriting. Then get that into the right hands, TPTB. Usually through an agent or manager. Gone are the days of pitching a show cold like back during Berman Trek.

All pitches are internal. You have to be on the writer’s staff to pitch. And that’s what I’m working toward is getting staffed.

After years of journalism work, I’ve pivoted to screenwriting and have been slowly working on that goal for the past decade. And it’s gained momentum in the last few years. Oddly, thanks to the pandemic. I’ve written about 15 or so scripts in the last three years. Two teleplays. Two pilots. Seven episode of a podcast drama. Another six for another. Comic scripts.

And recently completed an entertainment business course… so my next step is getting reps. Oh and more writing! I’m working on a SNW spec to use as another sample.
