Spoilers New Kirk series (SNW spoilers)

Just how is this "nonsense"? Where have I erred in my logic?

Well, your sources are mainly clickbait sites and sites that actually keep going by making up and posting lies (there's quite an overlap between the two, but wegotthiscovered is the latter)...

As for "erring in logic," you don't employ much logic at all. You leap from highly arguable premises to conclusions supported by flimsy or manufactured evidence (see: wegothiscovered, again).

So much for all that.

No...just no. STOP with the damn prequels already.

DO SOMETHING ORIGINAL.

Also, sorry, but I don't buy that new guy as Kirk for one second. He is NOT Kirk. The actor they have playing Sam Kirk would have been a better choice to play Jim.

Why should they start now? They've been repeating themselves since 1979.

And SNW is among the best, if not the best, shows they've done. So, stick with that.
Yeah and it could be the same awesome show with a whole new crew we've never seen before and set after the TNG shows.

Prequels need to stop. That's what I mean by do something original. Stop relying on nostalgia and give us some new characters and settings.

Eh, as long as it's good I really don't care how many old characters and settings they use. New doesn't mean better. Most Trek characters are the TOS characters with the serial numbers rubbed off. ;)

You must not have been around during the Great Absences of Trek between TOS and TMP/TNG, and ENT and DISC.

All those people were alive and available to work but tptb just did not know/care what to do with them, much. There was no leadership or desire to make Trek live anymore.

Now TPTB are using tools to create Trek that have been missing, it is catching up with the past. It is doing what it should have been doing all along but didn't/unable to do.

Assuming there is a future, this memberberry era will play itself out, the door to new adventures will then be opened.

And it isn't all nostalgic, DISC is blazing frontiers in original content.

IMO MMV etc. etc. lol

Originality is not an option--or available talent. Returning to the same, dried-up well is the natural order of a quite a number of movies and TV series--especially Star Trek.

TAS was the bridge between TOS and the TOS movies, so there was not a decade-long absence of ST content.

TMP/TNG? No absence there, as the TOS movies were still in production with two films yet to be released by the start of TNG in 1987.

Unfortunately, Star Trek is mostly nostalgia bait at this point (but what franchise isn't these days? Marvel has been "Remember the first Avengers movie?" for ages too). Like The Orville it's nice comfort viewing, but it is what it is.

Currently, life is very stressful and anxiety provoking. Comfort viewing is seen as the safest bet for people to keep watching.

I like SNW a lot. I don't like the 24/25th century setting nearly so much. I don't care what happens "after the TNG shows."

Stay in the 23rd century forever. It's still the future. We live in the 21st.

Odd that ST's owners thought nostalgia extended to a lifeless series about Picard (of all characters) and whoever was standing around from other Berman-era series.

Marvel has been "Remember the first Avengers movie?" for ages too).

Oh, without question, but that's only after another 50 movies and TV series of largely poor quality leads up to the next "event" film trying to channel Avengers. Rinse and repeat.

I’ve often thought I’d like to see Star Trek “invented” today. That is, imagine there’s not Star Trek but someone wanted to do a space show that allowed them to explore stories otherwise unable to be told, inviting the best SF writers of the day to contribute. With a desire to be something that allowed out-there ideas to be told by the best writers of the genre, but with continuing characters. Keep the fundamentals (of course, those would be debated) - characters, context - but build it anew. Would never happen, but fun to think about.

I really like SNW so far, but I don't think we need more than one show going back to the TOS era. We have a Pike/Spock show already, we don't need another Kirk/Spock show on top of it.

As others have said before, I'd really prefer a show that picks up where TNG/DS9/VOY left off, perhaps set in the PIC era, but a show that unlike PIC is focused on an ensemble cast of fresh new original characters that stand on their own (with the potential of familiar characters in guest roles, maybe, like Spock or Scotty guest starred on TNG, without stealing the TNG cast the show).

It's okay when the franchise looks back now and then, but it should not neglect going forward. Okay, they did that when they shifted DSC into the 31st century, but at least I didn't find that satisfying. There are just too many other things that don't work in DSC, imo.

That's a great idea. "NuTrek" may be entertaining when it's good, but I do miss the truly original, groundbreaking and relevant ideas. TOS, TNG and DS9 had this relevance in their best episodes. NuTrek, so far, only is "good entertainment", it's not really about anything. A Star Trek show that could be as relevant as, say, "Black Mirror", that really tests the limits of the genre would be nice, for a change.

On the other hand, when I want something Black Mirror-esque, I can always turn on Black Mirror.

In other words, don't get peanut butter on my chocolate.

(Spoiler: I almost NEVER want anything Black Mirror-esque.)

I didn't mean to say it should be "Black Mirror-esque". I was trying to say it should be as intelligent, relevant or original as, for example, Black Mirror. It wouldn't be any of this if it just tried to copy Black Mirror.
