New iOS Siri Feature

People with the latest iOS update on their iPhones have probably already tried this, but for those with Android I'll elaborate. Basically, if your iPhone is plugged into a power source you can say "Hey Siri" and it activates Siri remotely.
Has it struck anyone else how like the Star Trek universe computer it is? You say "Hey Siri", it beeps in acknowledgement, you ask a question/make request. If you had a connection like HomeKit, you could literally call for lights/temperature/lock doors like anyone in the Star Trek universe does.

People have probably already made this connection, but it hit me in the shower this morning and I had to share.

About as much as it needed this reply.

I usually keep Siri turned off. I think it's weird when I see people asking their phones questions.

I've got a Windows phone (yeah, I know - it accesses the internet, does photo's, video's, email, calls and texts - what else could I want ?) and after an update installed Cortana I spent a while trying to remove it. You can't.

What do people want such crap for ?

Yeah, it does work, and I will admit I've used it occasionally. It's still goofy looking, like when people are talking on their bluetooths and it looks like they're having crazy conversations with themselves.

You can turn if off though - I have cortana turned off and simply use it's search function when looking for files and folders local to my computer.

And people use it because they think it will make things easier for them.

On a s similar note, apparently Microsoft was getting a tad peeved that NFL commentators on tv where referring to thier MS Surface tablets as IPads.

I sometimes use Hey Siri at night to turn on the alarm when I have to get up the next morning for work as I usually have my iPhone plugged in to my clock radio/iPhone dock.
