New idea for a Trek series: "STAR TREK, SECTION 31"

CommodoreDecker

STAR TREK SECTION 31

STAR TREK MEETS MISSION IMPOSSIBLE...Sort of.....A section of Star fleet 24th century CIA. time Sloan encountered Dr. Bashir on DS9 and mention of them in "Into Darkness"
Section 31, who's existence of course if officially denied and off the books. A section 31 agent has the ability to overide Star Fleet protocals as well as can over-ride a Captains star ship codes and in effect, take over a Star ship if necessary. Their clear cut mission, protect the federation at all costs.

I think in the YouTube movie "STAR TREK RENEGADES" From the previews, an aging Admiral Chekov is planning with TUVOK a member of 31 to save the federation

Sorry, a series about an organization that has no jurisdiction, no checks or balances, is willing to kidnap people, murder them if necessary, and even condones genocide isn't exactly what I'd like to watch week after week.

Hitting a little close to home?

I've always hated the very idea of Section 31.

Rogue elements of Starfleet Intelligence I could buy, but an official black organization answering to no one? That's pretty much one of the stupidest ideas ever to appear on any version of Trek.

It's not quite the same thing, but I'd watch the hell out of a show about the Obsidian Order. :)

The problem would be convincing an audience that Section 31 is the good guys. Assassinating a starship captain might not be a good way to do it.

With Garak and his dad Enabran Tain running it, making Gul Dukat's life miserable? Problem with Cardassians is they never know when to SHUT UP.....And it would be like a Quentin Tarantino movie....too much dialogue

Space.... the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the warship Vengeance. It's continuing mission to spy on new lifeforms. To seek out all threats to the Federation, both foreign and domestic, and to boldly eliminate them all without a trace.

(cue heroic music)

Sometimes I think Sloan was the only member of Section 31. If it existed as suggested in ENT, maybe it's always one guy who has to pass along the files to his successor. And all that One Man does is recruit outsiders to do the dirty work.

No, I just don't like it. Is that some sort of presumption that because I don't like your idea, you're presuming the fault must lie with me somehow?

Maybe not a whole show but a DS9 mini movie featuring Garak, Dukat and Tain would definitely be good fun.

Sloan would've been much more interesting if he really just stayed in that Deputy Director role, and showed up regularly during the war giving intelligence briefings, carrying out covert missions and what not. Then he can reveal that he infected Odo with the virus to eliminate the enemy himself. That would've made him a much more interesting character than just... a gestapo agent.

Well, count me in, CommodoreDecker. I think if it was done well it could be marvelous. Different, very dark, but marvelous.

Sorry I must have missed something....Wasn't The Dominion a very real threat to the Federation? And the founders committed acts of sabotage right in the heart of Star Fleet Head quarters. Followed later on by an attack by the Breen? I get it, when there is a very real threat to the Federation, Section 31 is viewed by some of the top admirals as a Neccessary Evil of sorts.

The Tal Shiar, The Klingon Empire, The Obsidian order use assassination and torture techniques on their prisoners. I would like to believe that Section 31 up holds the same core values as The Federation and does not commit acts of genocide or assassination as other major powers might.

The Founders were a very real threat and in some ways more dangerous than the BORG some would commend Sloan's actions in infecting Odo.....

When I said earlier does it hit close to home, What I meant was it kinda has traces of the state of the world's governments and how they are today.

Ah, my pardon. Sure Section 31's tactics -are- pointed at the very worst aspects of human nature, much of which you can see any time you turn on the news. I just don't like the idea of a show's protagonist's being the villains. It's like telling the story of a heroic rapist or something.

Same here.

Agree! I never liked Section 31 - just one of the (many) reasons DS9 took a nosedive in quality during seasons 6-7.

A whole series dedicated to them... ugh. Bad idea.

Several problems.

1) A Section 31 show would bore an audience, due to week after week of basically the same storyline; an agent of 31 must break the Prime Directive/any other regulation in order to save the Federation. This would lead to unpopularity, and the show would be taken off the air.

2) The violations of regulations would, more often then not, involve immoral actions, leaving an audience slightly disturbed.

3) Section 31 is just dumb.

4) A new Trek show would have to be about a new crew roaming the galaxy, exploring and discovering, not about a bunch of immoral bastards violating regulations.....
