New Girl

^This is FOX we're talking about. They cancelled Wonderfalls after 4 episodes even though they had all 13 in the can at the time. Tru Calling had a 13 episode order for its 2nd season was was abruptly cut down to 6. Assume nothing!

I thought Deschanel was as awesome and adorable as ever... but unfortunately any time the show shifted AWAY from her it fell completely and utterly flat.

The writing was lame, and the only other actor besides Deschanel who made any impression at all, the black guy, is apparently going to be replaced in the next episode.

I think the guys on this show were bland & uninteresting (except for the bits where the coach was yelling at people). But at least I don't want to see all of them crushed by a passing freight train, which was my general reaction to all of the male characters on Whitney.

But yeah, it seems like the show's one and only strength is Deschanel's performance. Thankfully, it's really super fun. I also like how both New Girl & Whitney go to such lengths to disprove the semi-popular notion that women can't be funny. (I even have some female actress friends who believe this.:wtf:)

^ You do understand that New Girl is the highest rated show on the network in the demo?

It's also the highest rated scripted show on Fox. It's not going anywhere.

I was just on a Jetblue flight and the New Girl pilot was being shown. So i decided to re-watch it, thinking I may have been to harsh. Nope, still awful. In fact it was worst watching it a second time and knowing what was coming. This is only getting ratings because of Zooey.

It's like I'm reading something I wrote myself. Only I didn't write it. And I think ALL of the characters on Whitney are horrible.

I kinda like the female characters on Whitney. They're flawed but in a funny, sitcom-y way. Meanwhile, I keep waiting for them to retool the show for Whitney to dump that douchebag ugly slob of a boyfriend.

Granted, I've only seen 1 episode of Whitney, but you know what it reminds me of? Coupling. Granted, it's never even close to being as clever as Coupling was but the way it seems to draw such stark battle lines between the sexes and then sees how Whitney & her boyfriend somehow meet in the middle; it's like what Coupling would have been like if they'd tipped the emphasis slightly more in favor of Susan than Steve.

Coupling usually favored Susan due to Steve's tendency to revert to being an oaf, not unlike most men.

After watching the first one and a half episodes of Whitnet, I actually thought the same thing--this show is Coupling with a frontal lobotomy. And with subpar actors playing unlikable characters. To me, both episodes were literally painful to watch so I gave up halfway through the second one.

Well, I meant more in terms of screentime. But really, most of the screentime for the men on Coupling was dedicated to Jeff postulating some new absurd-but-true theory about men, women, sex, etc. Then the rest of the episode was about watching that theory inevitably prove itself to be devastatingly true in the context of Steve & Susan's relationship.

I just watched the third episode of New Girl. I'm really enjoying this show -- it's not great, but it keeps me entertained. And I actually laughed at the drunk roommate saying he was going to live in the photo booth. :guffaw:

It ain't Masterpiece Theatre, but I like it. Of course, I hate 30 Rock, so what do I know?
