New Girl

She's hawt and a musician. What's not to like? My wife loved it, I fell asleep halfway through, but I was exhausted.

I just watched New Girl and 2 Broke Girls. New Girl was disappointing, but I enjoyed 2 Broke Girls.

I was a little forgiving of The New Girl because it was a pilot, and they had to fit in the "origin story" in the first ten minutes, though I can honestly say that, were it not for Zooey, I would not have watched it.

Unlike 23skidoo, who called Zooey "not much of an actress," I think that, with the right material, she has pretty good range. (See Winter Passing for one of her rare dramatic roles, and she turns in a nuanced performance as the selfish, drugged-out daughter of a J.D. Salinger-type.) The New Girl didn't call on that range, though, and I think the episode forced a lot of questions -- like how did this character get anywhere, if she's so emotionally clueless? -- that it was incapable of asking.

None of the other characters, though, clicked with me -- I can only remember them as Bartender, Douchebag, Coach, and Supermodel -- and I felt like all of them together made the episode too crowded.

I felt it was intermittently funny at best -- and, unfortunately, I'd seen all the funny bits in the promo reel that FOX put out over the summer to promote the series.

The things that interested me were the stylistic things. I liked that it had no laugh track. I liked that it didn't look like a three-camera sitcom shot on a soundstage. Actually, it felt like it was a movie script that didn't sell so they decided to turn it into a television show; I could see this as a 100-minute rom-com with Mark Ruffalo as Bartender.

For Zooey's sake, I'll give it six episodes. I want to see the characters develop into something more than labels, and I hope the series figures out what it's about.

I liked it quite a bit. But I always like Zooey, and the character she played in this was startling similar to my girlfriend.

It was better than "Whitney" at least.

That's not saying much considering Whitney was pure shit which is odd considering Whitney Cummings is also behind 2 Broke Girls which is pretty entertaining.

That said, I actually enjoyed New Girl. I'm assuming the three guys will actually develop unique personalities...they all felt largely interchangeable in the pilot.

One is. He's already been replaced. (Actually, going back to his other show--Damon Wayans Jr, Coach, is on Happy Endings.)

Ok, I was almost going to write this show off after the horrible (IMHO) pilot, but I was much more pleased with last night's episode. I share continue watching it further. :)

I thought tonight's episode was... umm... well... it wasn't good.

I didn't laugh once in the first act. I don't like any of the characters, except possibly the guy who replaced Coach. They're shallow, self-absorbed, emotional idiots, and Jess is the worst of them.

A sitcom should be funny. This sitcom isn't.

I enjoyed it, but I dont see it lasting either, and the whole 2nd half of the show, the only thing I could really think was Zoey was wearing that dress with no panties

I know thats not reality, but still...

I liked the episode tonight more than the pilot. The new guy is less annoying than Coach.

However what is the point of the show? It's a huge hit, but what would story arcs be if it lasts for years?

I thought for sure that was going to play into the story somehow. I don't know why I like the show, it's probably my crush on Zooey and maybe some secret desire to be a cool hipster douche.

It does have a nice look though, it looks more stylish than most sitcoms.

Time to call it quits.. i really like Zooey Deschanel which is why i watched in the first place but the pilot was only funny in small parts and the recent episode made me laugh only at the end when they chicken danced.. way too unfunny for a comedy show.

Gah, :P I'm not one for comedy but I do enjoy watching this. It's not the whitty kind of funny or intelligent funny which makes it odd that I do like it but I think its the attempt at physical comedy that works for me. It's by no means great but it isn't complete trash like a lot of shows that try to be comedy.

I had downloaded the first episode for free on iTunes. It was quirky and amusing enough but not spectacular. The second episode is now up on Hulu for free, and I didn't like it as much. I love Zooey Deschanel but this show just isn't working.

There have been three episodes so far.

I rate them thusly:

Pilot: 3/10.
Episode 2: 5/10
Episode 3: 6.5/10

Clear upward trend here. I'm gonna keep watching. At least until it's cancelled anyway.

They just got a full-season order, so I'd guess you're safe for a while.
