News New Game - Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown

Story and missions:

Episodes are represented by simple resource gathering (like Prototype), side missions (like Unity, Innocence), away missions (like the beginning of Scorpion), and decisions to make on the ship (like Tuvix).

Room details:

The Captain's dining room before and after Neelix converted it, the torpedo bay, the aeroshuttle away bay, THOSE things (they were named on LDS, Tucker tubes?), a TNG pool table, and the very nice looking bridge!

I noticed there is already a DLC available for $12.99.

The DLC contains 5 additional missions, 2 new recruitable heroes and 3 new technologies.

New Missions:
Medical Ethics (Sector 4)
Infinite Regress (Sector 8)
Counterpoint (Sector 9)
Friendship One (Sector 11)
Good Shepherd (Sector 11)

Ships:

Small ships (Raven type generic wreck, Baxial freighter, type 9/12 shuttle), The amazing Voyager, with DS9, the Array, and Kazon fighters.

Other fun stuff:

Characters look good, but don't do much in terms of animations. The funniest side task so far was a tribble outbreak :D

I wanted to do everything as in the show in my first run, with the exception of letting Tuvix live. Then I didn't remember the details of their choices in some of the episodes and had to guess :D

I am curious what happens if you don't try to make a deal with the Borg in Scorpion. The game does give you that option to try to navigage the Borg corridor on your own. I imagine you do not get access to the Borg tech tree. But do you still get to move on to the next sector and just have to endure ambushes from the Borg and/or Species 8472 on your own?

Yeah day 1 dlc put me off this as this is cut content from the main game plain and simple, and this moblie nickle and diming has no place in the pc version, this is mobile MT at its worst, so yeah they got a no sale from me for this, but i MAY pick it up on sale at some point, but i am now in no hurry to get the game and will now wait and see what other dlc they have coming and how soon.

I wonder where the demo was in those difficulty ranges. Did anyone find cheats yet? One website says you can unlock a console with -console and ~, and then use traditional cheats, but it doesn't seem to work.
According to this website, you need to add a debug to the exe file. Link: https://www.gamewatcher.com/news/star-trek-voyager-across-the-unknown-console-commands-and-cheats

I haven't tried this yet because it disables achievements. Using WeMod and Nexus Mods so far.

So I started a new game but when I ordered Tuvok the fire the tricobalt torpedo to destroy the Caretaker array, I got a pop up window saying "fatal error" and the game crashed. I went back to a previous save but the game crashes at that exact point every time. I hope to fix this issue because I really would like to continue playing the game. Not sure what happened because I played the game for 17 hours fine before. I could try uninstalling and reinstalling the game and see if that helps. My computer is pretty old and has been freezing before so it could just be my computer. I will likely be getting a new computer soon anyway.

Have you checked the temperatures of your CPU and GPU?
It could be clogged with dust and hitting thermal limits (in which case, I'd recommend opening the PC up and manually cleaning it - while its shut down of course... additionally, the thermal paste could have dried out on both the CPU and GPU (or at the very least may need replacing).
If you're on a laptop, you'd need to probably apply a new thermal putty on the VRM's and VRAM chips too.

This would be a good regular maintenance to do 'just in case'... but it would also be helpful to know what kind of system you have (hw specs, are you on Windows or Linux, which version, etc).

GPU and chipset drivers might need updating too - BIOS too potentially (if you hadn't done this already).

Let me know.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, there is probably a lot of dust that got in.

It is a mini pc with amd ryzen 9 processor and 32GB RAM with integrated graphics. The CPU and RAM are pretty good but the lack of a dedicated graphics card is probably an issue. I got it about 3 years ago. It is very compact which is nice to save space on my desk. But it is not easy to upgrade.

I am leaning towards getting a cyberpowerpc with amd ryzen 5, 16 GB RAM and a Radeon RX 6400 4GB graphics card. The tower is far easier for maintenance and upgrading than the mini pc. I can upgrade the ram and the graphics card when I want to. If I get it, I would double the ram immediately and maybe upgrade the graphics card in a couple years.

A mini pc?

Do you know the specific name/model of the CPU and iGP?
Since you already played the game for 17 hrs, it could just be a software bug... but as I said, do try the cleaning and repasting, and driver upgrades.

Also:
Instead of getting a new PC (Wwhich looks to be a DOWNGRADE in overall performance compared to your Mini PC), might I suggest an external GPU?

I consulted with gemini based on what you said and here's its conclusion:

Recommendation: If your Mini PC has USB4 (or Thuderbolt), an eGPU with a mid-range card (like an RTX 4060) will actually outperform that Ryzen 5/RX 6400 tower by a significant margin.

eGPU Enclosure: $250 – $400 (Razer Core X / TH3P4G3 for example)

GPU (e.g., RTX 3060 or RX 6600): $250 – $300
Total: ~$500 – $700
Comparison: For this price, you are halfway to a much more powerful tower than the CyberPowerPC you're considering.

4060 was just an example, but you can definitely go with an AMD GPU instead since they are usually cheaper.
Perhaps a RX 9060XT?
A little more expensive (if you get 16GB version), but probably well worth it - since this is considered the 'sweet spot' today and due to rising RAM prices, we don't know how the market will behave.

It is PC in a small compact form, about 7 inches by 6 inches by 4 inches. Here is picture of the PC in its stand:

Yes, it does have USB4. I thought about getting an eGPU since I really just need a graphics card to boost the performance.

By the way, here are some other computers I was considering:

STGAubron Gaming PC Desktop Computer, Radeon RX 590 8G, Intel Core i7 up to 3.9G, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, WiFi 6, BT 5.0, RGB Fan x4, Windows 11 Home

CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Gaming PC, Intel Core i5-13400F 2.5GHz, GeForce RTX 5060 8GB, 16GB DDR5, 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, WiFi Ready & Windows 11 Home

Thanks for your input!

I am aware of what a miniPC is... I was mainly positing a question next to it for the specs request (which I asked for immediately)... my own fault for not phrasing it better. But thank you either way.

To be fair, those new systems you presented still seem like a downgrade to me.

I think your current miniPC setup is more than adequate... I'd just get the eGPU if I was you.
I updated my previous response but I can post it here again.

Suggestion for the eGPU and GPU:

eGPU Enclosure: $250 – $400 (Razer Core X / TH3P4G3 for example - please ensure it comes with a power supply)

GPU: RX 9060 XT, 8GB or 16GB (I'd recommend 16GB just to insulate yourself down the line, and its not that much more expensive than 8GB version) - frequently listed between: $340 - $360

Thanks for the eGPU and GPU recommendations! I will definitely check them out!

You're welcome. Just, do yourself a favour and do the maintenance I suggested (aka, dust cleanup, repasting, and driver updates).

Because you played the game for a long period of time on the existing setup, it might just be a software bug... (but the egpu/GPU combo would still be decent thing going forward just in case).

Here's another recommendation:

Run DISM (Repairs the Windows image, which acts as the source for system repairs)
Open Command prompt as an admin and copy/paste this:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Run SFC (Scans and repairs actual system files)
Open Command prompt as admin and copy/paste this:
sfc /scannow

These can be a good thing to do just as part of maintenance. Oh and if you have any paid for Antivirus software running in the bg... I'd suggest you remove it... you don't need it because Microsoft Defender is more than adequate on its own.

The game is working again. I think the save got corrupted somehow. I went into Steam and validated the integrity of the files and it seemed to fix it. No more crashes!
