KRAD generally seems to have a great talent for capturing the essence of pre-existing characters, so yeah, I think I would trust him to write NF stories, too.

Same here! I start reading NF again of KRAD was doing it.
I'm only a few books into NF so far, but "comic book heroes", action-based plots and one-liners are what it's been since the very start.I loved New Frontier when it first came out, but after the entire Beings plot (probably a bit before that) I felt things going down hill. Characters felt more like comicbook heroes, dialogue was filled with one-liners, plots were very action-based. And that's oke once in a while, but book after book... It wasn't my thing anymore, and the last NF I read was Stone And Anvil.
That being said, for Peter David and for the fans I hope there will be a decent ending to the series, a true finale. I do feel the series (any series really) deserves that, for the fans and for the creators.

Do you think (if it is finished in its own right) New Frontier could be absorbed into the main continuity, like DS9 has been recently ?

I'd prefer if it remained in its own little world. One of the things I like about NF is that I don't have to worry about what's going on in all the other novels to enjoy it. The rest of the series have gotten a little too overwhelming for me. It's the same reason I can't get into comic books...too many cross-title storylines!
Well, sure, if their stories remain separate, and I don't start having to read other books to understand what's going on, then go for it.Do you think (if it is finished in its own right) New Frontier could be absorbed into the main continuity, like DS9 has been recently ?

They could stay in their own little are of space despite what happens elswhere, so why not.
The only time I felt a bit lost was when the NF crew dropped in on The Next Generation in "Before Dishonor". My reaction at the time was "WhoTF are these people?". Other than that, there's virtuaully no crossover, besides a few namedrops.
I was wondering if anyone knew if Peter David planned to write anymore New Frontier novels...
PAD said:I've been asking Pocket Books that very question for two years. They have yet to give me a concrete answer.

I plan to read Before Dishonor once I'm caught up on pre-Destiny DS9 lit (I'm currently on Warpath). Without any spoilers (please), how prevalent is the NF crew in Before Dishonor?
Calhoun and the Excalibur show up but thats it.

look at the 'Known Space' circle on the right, and i'd say somewhere above the box labelled 'Chart 2'.
(warning, FREAKING HUGE image)
it's hard to be exact since one book referenced Danter crossing into Tholian space in its orbit, but the preponderance of evidence is that Thallonian Space, the Danteri Empire and Xenex are in the Beta Quadrant out past the Romulan Empire.
So maybe the Klingons have an annex off in that direction too? Part of the same expeditionary period that saw them send ships into Breen space, as distant as that is?
