New console room description

Im holding on a little until show and tell arrives.

Sounds cool and retro etc, but it still rings Fan-Wankery to me.

To be honest, it sounds like all Who eras have been incorporated into that description.

Its either that or its a flashback of somesort with the classic interior updated for, well, the HD generation.

Besides, why would the BBC greenlight such a boring sounding, plain, white and gray set when they broardcast in glorious 1080p HD???

Might aswell film the Tardis interiors at their local Tupperware party. It'd be more convincing.

Classic Fan, your post is just too subtle. I can't tell, are you in favor of the idea or against it?

well, he's always waving his screwdriver about and fiddling on the run (sometimes literally), why bother with a lab in the TARDIS when most stories he doesn't even go back to it until the end?

It will be nice to see more than one room in the Tardis for a change. After 5 years of the old set I 'm happy to see a change.

Pedant mode: They'll be broadcasting in 1080i, nobody broadcasts in full 1080p (apart from some obscure premium satellite movie networks and none of them serve the UK).

If that's the officially stated (or leaked) reason, fair enough. But otherwise, I don't really buy it. This show isn't the original series of Star Trek, designed for flickery and unsharp 480-line screens. It's a 2005 show, designed with crystal-clear PAL reception in mind.

Anamorphic PAL is a gorgeous SD standard, no argument, but it still pales in comparison to 1080i/720p video. And when the bluray release comes out, which hopefully will be in 1080p, the difference will be even more staggering. That's a massive jump in detail and frankly, the current TARDIS set is starting to look a bit ropey even in SD. I noticed some... uncovered joins (;)) a while back, and in HD they'd just look awful.

No, the switch to HD, a new producer, Doctor, and era all round is the perfect opportunity to shake up the look of the show. There's every reason to do it and really no good reason not to.

Oh, I'd so love to argue with you over the 'no good reason' bit, but I really can't think of something that's terribly defensible, so I'll just bite my tongue.

I was never actually fond of the "coral" desktop, while it looked quite a bit better than the old variants, my favorite Tardis control room was in the Fox movie. And I hope they do something nice with the console, too. The current one is covered with too much junk.

The FOX movie control room looked the most alien. Heck, the whole interior of the TARDIS looked alien, not like the old series that used old buildings for some interior shots.

As for the new control room, isn't this the internet? Why is it we can see nude photos of Paris and Britney's vaginas but we can't get a photo of something we really care about, the new control room!

I thought the console room in the Fox movie looked liked it was made for a Jules Verne novel, it didn't look very alien to me.

Intel says the backdrop for it has been completed now, and should be on location soon. Let's hope somebody gets some pix.
