New console room description

I loved when Tom Baker walked forever in the TARDIS once. I remember one scene when he peeks into a well furnished room with ONE pair of boots on the oriental carpet. When asked, he says, "Boot closet." and moves on!

I don't suppose anyone has stumbled upon a clip of this on youtube? I'd love to see it. Sounds funny.

far be it for me to judge Classic Who, but that sounds like a really boring episode.

That was only in the first about five minutes of that ep. the rest of it was mainly on location.
the use of the word "forever" suggests that he spent alot of time walking though the TARDIS.

Sorry - it's been so long since I've seen it, that was my impression. I meant "forever" in a more wondrous sense actually. I remember thinking: "Wow - you could go on forever in there!"

I fear I was being to literal again, I was wasn't I?

The description sounds very cool. I hope it's accurate and we'll get photos soon.

Crossing my fingers for a bottle show. :D

To bring a five year old, increasingly shabby set up to high definition standards mainly.

If that's the officially stated (or leaked) reason, fair enough. But otherwise, I don't really buy it. This show isn't the original series of Star Trek, designed for flickery and unsharp 480-line screens. It's a 2005 show, designed with crystal-clear PAL reception in mind.

Besides, the special effects and sets on NuWho have seemed, at times, almost intentionally crummy and low-budget (the fourth season finale was worst in that regard), and I've no doubt that the same will occasionally be true for season five. The TARDIS interior was never the weakest link, and often the strongest.

It's not necessarily the condition of the set but also the lighting and the space available for shooting. People went a bit bananas over the vivid blue of the new TARDIS exterior until it was pointed out that HD recording tends to mute colours. The soft green lighting and coral colours of the current console room may not translate well to HD, and the set may pose problems with shadows/reflections.

The Masque of Mandragora, where the Doctor and Sarah find the Secondary Console Room (the wooden one) that's used for all of Tom Baker's subsequent stories until Romana shows up.
Actually, I believe Middle Earther was referring to The Invasion of Time.

The boot cupboard scene is definitely Mandragora, checked with my copy of the TV Companion where they go on about the dodginess of the CSO superimposition of the room.

The swimming pool and power plant are indeed Invasion of Time, but Middle Earther is talking about an ep where the TARDIS scenes come at the beginning, whereas in Invasion they happen quite a way into the story.

Indeed you're right. I missed that part of the post.

It's probably a combination of factors. The need to change for HD if nothing else probably gave Moffat more of an excuse to change things, although I'm guessing if he wanted to change the desktop theme he'd do so, but the Beeb might have baulked at the cost until told they had to change it anyway.

I kinda like the sound of the new console room, seems far more in keeping with how the TARDIS used to be (although I did like the coral look), I will reserve judgement until we see pics though. This could still be BS, or even intentional misdirection.

Any signs of the pictures yet? Sounds interesting... can't judge it till we get a glimpse though!

lol come on, when has that ever stopped us from judging? ;)

I like the sound of it, and hope the story is true. Either way, we'll see eventually.
