New Companion Rumour

I get the feeling she won't be the most important person in the universe a la Amy and Clara. Looks like they're consciously trying to go old-school with this companion. And by 'old school' I am of course referring to the first four years of Nu-Who. That's old enough to be old school now, right?

Well that scene was dumb. In terms of Mackie, hopefully she is less annoying than that scene. I'll give her a chance at least.

Good to see the BBC's tradition of having their big announcements messed up continues. Next time tell your new Companion not to suddenly start following past Companions on Twitter. And tell your Doctor not to pose for publically available photos with them beforehand.

You'd think that of all people who wouldn't be racist Doctor Who fans would be high up on the list but having subjected myself to some of the hatred and bile coming out of "fans" this evening that seems to be pretty far from reality.

I'll give her a chance. I'm more curious about who the next Doctor will be. I didn't care for Capaldi that much, mainly because the writing was crap and he could only do so much with what he was given.

People are saying racist things about her? Oh dear. I can see people not immediately liking her because of how the clip portrays her character, but people being racist about it? Sheesh. Sigh.....

She was just a bit annoying really, but as people have said it hopefully gives a really false impression of her.

If she is from the 80s I don't see the point, but that might be because the 80s doesn't seem that long ago for me, for the average 8 year old it'll probably feel like Victorian times ;)

It wouldn't have felt such an anticlimax if they hadn't made such a big deal about it.

Yeah I agree, her ethnicity isn't the point it's the initial irritating impression she gives

So much so that you've got him dead and buried when he's not even been announced to be leaving anytime before 2018.

He's signed on for one more season (or series) and it won't be on the air for another year. He's all but confirmed it will be his last.

If she's from the 80s and is traveling to 2017, that means she's time-traveling into what could be her immediate future.

I wish the new companion could have been anything other than a 20-something human female. What's wrong with men, or people 40+, or non-earthlings? Oh well.
If it was a man, and I mean this completely seriously, there would've been a massive revolt on Tumblr and all over the blogosphere. There is a growing portion of people out there that think it is high time for a female Doctor, and that the actor after Capaldi SHOULD be a woman no matter what. If this companion turned out to be male, they would've exploded. It would've been used as more proof of the Doctor Who boys' club, the sexism of Steven Moffat, how diversity is being ignored, etc. etc. etc. Even though the show just had Rory, and there's been Captain Jack and Mickey in the recent past...making the "main" companion a man would've meant nothing but bad press until Christmas, justified or not.

The non-earthling thing is something that is SERIOUSLY underused, though. In my opinion at least. They missed a golden opportunity this time to make the companion an alien. And personally, I would've liked an older woman, too. Someone older, but different than Donna and River

The new companion was a bit annoying in the clip (I was kind of hoping that The Doctor would use her as a human shield at the end of the clip :shifty: ) but its way too early to tell if she'll be a good or bad companion. The clip didn't seem very well written. I'll wait and see how she works in an actual episode before forming an opinion.

Her outfit. The washed denim jacket. Patch on it that says "Wow!" in bright colors. The hair, the pants, the shoes.... She's completely 80's.
Thing is, everyone thought for certain Amy was going to be from the 1980s based on her outfit back when the first filming photos from the Weeping Angel story were first released. Look how wrong that turned out to be.
