New Companion Rumour

Wasn't Smith's initial console room also replaced because it was a pain in the neck to shoot in (reflections in all the glass, or something along those lines)?

^^While those complaints were made by directors and camera operators, it was ultimately the move to another studio that resulted in a new console room.

I just really, really, really hope the new companion isn't a contemporary girl. And the more alien, temporaly displaced, or exotic, the better. Just please, please not another contemporary girl. Pleeeeaaase!

I really would like it they brought in a male companion, but that probably won't happen.

I think a father-son or even "buddy" vibe would make a nice change.

I think Capaldi has said he doesn't want a young man to come in and get all the action, which is slightly ridiculous given most male companions over the years haven't started out as tough guys, in fact Leela's probably harder than any of them, even Jamie or Jack.

For me the Tardis should look alien, however grand the TVM's Tardis interior looked I hated it because why would the Doctor want it to look like HG Wells designed it?
Why wouldn't he? After all, the Sixth Doctor met H.G. Wells. Where do you think the inspiration for Wells' time machine story came from? ;)

I'm trying to remember when a male companion got "all the action"... Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, sure. I haven't seen enough of the Steven Taylor stories to remember if he got much of the action.

The U.N.I.T. men weren't official companions, and Harry Sullivan was more Sarah's sidekick than the Doctor's Companion, and in any case he was always presented as a bumbling idiot. The next male companion was K-9 (yes, I think of him as male), and then there were Adric and Turlough. Adric wasn't much of a physically active Companion, and Turlough spent most of his time sneaking around and getting locked up in various rooms and cells; the writers really didn't know what to do with him after the Black Guardian story arc was over. In the majority of the Classic Who male Companions, the relationship was that of mentor-student.

I can't think of any nuWho male companions who were treated with even that much consideration. They've all pretty much been considered little more than annoying nuisances.

Well both Micky and Rory came good, and Jack always gave the impression he could handle himself...and anyone else...boom tish!

Of course, it can be argued there should always be a female companion so that the show can have a regular female presence. So that means we'll likely only get male companions as part of a "TARDIS team" like Rose and Jack, Rose and Mickey, Amy and Rory, or if we actually do end up with a female Doctor.

Although it is interesting, the only male companion who is considered the definitive companion for their Doctor is Jamie.

The companion is the ball. Instead of Handles, this one's name is Roundy.

And we're back to Frank Skinner! ;)

I think you're right, it seems a bit big for just some girl or guy who's just done a few episodes of Hollyoakes.

Given Moffat's comments when people suggested Osgood I guess we can probably rule out a former companion or even Missy... Maybe? Heck of a boost if they wheel out Barrowman or Tate? Or McGann? The Doctor as his own companion?

I would guess it has to be someone well-known to announce it like this.

In true Doctor Who fashion, I fear the hype will far outstrip the reality. They'll probably end up casting a late-twentysomething actress with a decent career but not much name recognition, someone like Aisling Loftus (who was rumored for Clara, as I recall) or Francesca Fowler (who played Capaldi's daughter in "The Fires of Pompeii").

"Twenty Two year old from Glimmerick, England(Odd named county credential) who had a small role serving wine to Benedict Cumberbatch"

Having Capaldi's Doctor being the companion of McGann's Doctor would be funny. Especially if he has to keep that he is also the Doctor a secret from his younger self. Though I'm not sure if he (the Doctor that is) could pull that off for very long. At least not without nearly destroying the universe via the first law of time or something like that.

Well really Eight would have to be Twelve's companion given he's about 1000 years younger, and it'd have to be a two Doctor season, I don't think they could pull the "who are you?" trick for 12 episodes, and at the end Eight would basically have to forget it all!
