New Classic Who Bu Ray Sets

Starfleet Engineer

Vice Admiral

I just saw the 3rd Doctor's first season (10) on blu-ray is available for pre-order on Amazon UK. How have these sets been made available in the US? Will Amazon here offer them soon? I'm very interested in getting Pertwee's season 10.

The first Tom Baker set sold out in the UK and is going for stupid amounts of money on eBay, even without the replacement discs. I'm not aware if it was also made available in the US - I don't think so.

Now, *THIS* is how you convinced me to buy a Blu-ray boxset. How freaking fun! And I always wondered what happened to Bessie. ;)

I wonder if that was Stewart Bevan reprising his role as Clifford Jones in that short framing narrative. If so, nice touch!

To answer the OP, Tom's first and last seasons have been released in the US along with Davison's first season. I got mine on Amazon. I have not checked to see if they are still available.

And, I noticed that Pertwee's 4th season (season 10) is available for pre-order in the US. It's due out in October.

I'm wondering about that October release date in the US. With Season 26 (Seven/Ace) all but confirmed to be the next one after this, are they waiting and releasing both simultaneously on our side of the pond?

I often wondered why it never appeared in the Sontaran two-parter in David Tennant's third season, given the presence of UNIt and the automotive theme.

The actual vehicle had been at the DW Exhibition in Cardiff. I was thrilled to see it there in person! So, it doesn't seem like it would've been hard for them to access the vehicle if they had wanted.

Might have been a bit more complicated - iirc Bessie was never actually road legal (yet the Who Mobile was) so they it might have caused production delays getting everything sorted out.

The classic seasons are available in the US, however they are packaged in standard blu-ray cases, not the deluxe Region 2 boxes, and do not come with anything extra like booklets.
I was pretty disappointed to open up Season 12 to find that it's JUST the discs - nothing else.

I haven't really been following this, how do they compare with the DVD releases? I don't think the resolution would be that big of a deal for material of its age but have they used the opportunity to try to clean up the source for its move to Blu?

I was looking online and they call them Tom Baker Season One and so on, ugh. I get what they're doing but it rankles this old timer.

As I wasn't willing to part with £350 to ebay scalpers I actually bought the US version for £50, as it works in the European region players just fine. Would have been nice to have had all the bells and whistles, but I'm just happy to have the episodes on blu ray. Not sure if it's just because it was far more popular than others or if the BC learnt their lesson and manufactured more, but the Davison and 2nd Baker sets are still readily available from most sellers.

That was very silly.

And wow, ten hours of bonus material? Too bad it's for a largely rubbish season. :p
