*sigh*
People are already highlighting AI upscaling fails in the S21 set.
Dang, it regenerated into an upturned mop!
True, with upscaling settings there are bound to be some failures, of which some are just going to be more atrocious than others (never mind those that end up looking better); not sure why they ditched the old processes to begin with as those always looked fantastic and consistent, though as I don't recall anything egregious in the AI-enhanced sets prior to season 13, someone changed a setting... or something. Irritating, sure... but if it's limited in frequency and keeping in mind that some scenes are going to be "seen" differently by the algorithms and processed as such, seeing Davison's hair now looking like big pulsing squid tentacles or like a big puffy haystack plopped on his head and missing only a pigeon's byproduct plopping atop it... not to mention that scene was slowed down. It's probably not as dreadful at normal FPS. That aside, especially as shown, it is unintentionally comedic as AI, when recognizing hair via pattern matching, usually enhances the detail in a way that looks more like hair than a needle-less haystack.
Got my S21 set today and after flipping through all the stories it's definitely better than the last few sets but you're still never too far away from some detail turning into AI mush.

If it works, why change it? No proofing before releasing? Or too few "fails" compared to what looked like massive improvements by comparison? (If that ratio is high enough, a few nitpicks aren't terrible, but that one from "Awakening" is impressive considering how well AI usually adjusts hair, but usually with hair the AI pattern matching also recognizes a face under it. But season 13 was easily the worst of the AI-enhanced season sets, so far. Haven't seen 21's yet...)
The film sequences in 'Planet of Fire' look wonderful though, and make me wish for that alternate reality where the entire series was shot that way.
Are the revamped CGI scenes included, where they added fire to the Sarn exterior scenes? Those were a big plus on the DVD release (IMHO), really giving atmosphere in a consistent way that couldn't have been done with the budget in 1984...
