Yeah, I'd expect a Trek animation to be up to the standard of other Trek, and to complicate matters, I've never liked a serious animated TV show. At all.

I've watched (and purchased) TAS, The Clone Wars and one or two other things for completeness sake, but I don't really like them very much.

It's not that I'm entirely anti animation - there's a bunch of animated movies I've enjoyed, but I've never thought much of animated serialised storytelling for an adult(ish) audience. It's generally crappy.

I've got zero enthusiasm for any animated Trek and really wish they wouldn't.

Maybe my preconceptions will be confounded...

Well I think the Nickelodeon Star Trek cartoon will be the most important show coming up, because it will bring more new fans then the live action show will, if Nickelodeon does not screw it over.

my two cents after watching it twice... it was cute, but not what i had hoped for. i was thinking this would be quieter, more like WALL-E's opening scenes. the need to cram in as many famous scenes and moments needlessly disrupted what could've been a cute story and i found the slapstick elements hurt it even more. the animation of the DOT-7 and tardigrade was cute, but the animation work on the humans was weird and jarring.

i'll say this about both of the animated entries (since i fucked up and made the poll about both), i appreciate what they do for the fabric of the star trek universe. they're making this universe a little richer, a little more varied, and i'm glad the producers are experimenting with new formats, new types of stories, and new tones.

giacchino's score was pretty cute too, even if he didn't reference a single one of his themes from the kelvin timeline (like they did in Q&A).

Memory Alpha lists Kirk Thatcher (the punk on the bus in TVH) as being part of the cast of this ep. Is this accurate? If so, who does he play?

It felt like a damn Tom & Jerry cartoon......in space.

NCC-1701-A? A pretty big mistake, if it was a mistake. Not sure why they'd do it otherwise. It was clearly the 1701 self-destructing over planet Genesis. Not enough to spoil my enjoyment though.

The history of TOS scenes were fun. I'd give it an solid 8 if there was a proper poll.

Just saw a screencap of the Enterprise “A’s” destruction. They didn’t even center the name and registry correctly; it’s off to the side as opposed to right in front. Plus there’s a much smaller name and registry that’s equally centered wrong (not to mention that it doesn’t exist on the filming model.) I’m sure the animators were rushed, but geez...

that's what I meant with the saucer being rotated oddly away from facing forward, and it's the most avoidable of all mistakes:shrug:

The Tardigrade gave the Enterprise an A...for the grade of its eggs...

It is a Tardigrade after all...

*bolts for the door*

It is true that the TOS Enterprise WAS "Really" the Discoprise, but the refit 1701 and E-A are the same? If they had to CG the ships, why not keep the TOS one the same? Same interiors for the 1701 and it's refit?
I admit the music was a plus.

Yes, but it was kinda weird to see the exterior be the Discoprise, yet the interior seemed to be completely fashioned after TOS style.
The only aberration to that, was Them putting a window in Sickbay.
(and of course, having DOT robots onboard)

Though ... it did appear that the window was positioned to be in the ceiling of sickbay at a strange angle.
I suppose it could be some kind of skylight that connects up through the decks to the surface of the ship.
I don't believe we ever saw a view of sickbay looking up at the ceiling toward the exterior of the ship.
The view the Tardigrade had was some distance away and from above Kirk & McCoy talking to Khan.

Either way, it's obviously a change to what we thought was canon.

I feel like I want to chalk it up to artistic licence. If they make a Kirk Series after they potentially make a Pike Series, then I don't think they'll take their cues from "Ephraim & Dot".

I was going to mention the sickbay window, but just did not type it.
If the animators had to model and render a refit 1701, as in the movies, why not create the TOS 1701 as we saw it in all other tv shows??

God only knows at this point just what They will decide to do in the future.
They've been all over the place with the look.

They really seem to be trying to have Their cake and eat it too with the multitude of opinions in Trek fandom.
