Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

It would have been nice if they could have used a different ship design for the Defiant in "The Tholian Web."

The Anderson company probably could have done something to an AMT kit. What would that have cost? $20?

W9 Why didn't you add the green around the Defiant?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ I was able to make it look like it was fading but the clouding effect wouldn't come out the way I wanted it. I'll give it another try.

I think that could have been the intention, before they replaced the USS Scimitar with the Constitution class USS Defiant!!

Great picture!

This is a composite of the Enterprise from DS9 and Saturn from a picture from Voyager.

Spock desperately tries to deflect the asteroid in "The Paradise Syndrome".

Enterprise is from DS9, moon, Earth, sun, and asteroid are courtesy of Nasa ; )

Hehe! Could it perhaps be a screencap taken from the real 1982 sequel to ST:TMP, namely Star Trek II: Kitumba, produced by Gene Roddenberry & Jon Povill, written by John Meredyth Lucas, and directed by Douglas Trumbull? ;)

[Edit]

Actually, if you multiply the number of K't'inga's by about a factor of thirty and add an alien M-Class world to the background, you would have a fairly convincing approximation of the NCC-1701 Refit going nose-to-nose against Malkthon's fleet in orbit above The Sacred Planet. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ Kitumba was vaguely in the back of my mind when I did this sometime back. Or it could just as easily been something adapted from Blish's Spock Must Die! I'm hoping to composite a few more post TMP shots, but it will be challenging because there is little flexibility with the TMP images that are available. I love doing the ships and space shots, but the character scenes add an extra dimension of, "Oh man, if we'd gotten only to see that!"

Neat to see you post in here TGT. I'd have been curious on some of your thoughts throughout the thread. I started out thinking I'd post maybe a dozen or so images plus a few contributed by others, but since I started this back at the beginning of April I posted something near 150 pics, and I think I've still got a few more left in me. :) Also in only a few months time I'm closing in on number of views on CRA's thread concerning his 1701 deck plan project.

:)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Love the thread Warped9.

That last shot of the three Klingon ships approaching the Enterprise actually fits well in the Kitumba story. In particular the part where a "replica" of the Enterprise appears so as to draw off a few (IIRC, three) Klingon cruisers from the main force!

I dig it!

BTW, when are you going to finish your Batman-Saint crossover? ;)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ Oh dear Lord, I'd forgotten about that! I really should get back to scanning the rest of that story into the computer (it doesn't exist on file, only in hardcopy except for the part I'd already scanned and posted).

Actually, I thought about making something for the Enterprise against the fleet at Ultar in Kitumba. I didn't know how many people would recognize what I was talking about.

Personally, I found the story to be interesting, but the Klingons seemed a little hard to believe (I know that was their intent, and parts of the Klingon culture would still be transfered to the Next Generation, but the suicides seemed almost comical, because they happened too often).

This episode has a Klingon fleet that is 1000 ships strong. I had always thought that the fleets in Deep Space Nine were rediculously large (and they probably were), but it doesn't sound quite so impractical anymore. Granted, they are non-canon, and something like the fleet size could have been changed in later revisions, but, like I said, it's food for thought.

Warped9, do you have a script, or just the plot summary?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ I read the Kitumba story outline ages ago and recall only parts of it. If I understand correctly part of it did manifest itself to some extent in TNG. I do recall that ther were aspects that I thought inconsistent with what we knew of the Klingons then, but it was also just a story outline and no doubt some things would have been changed by the time it ever reached a finalized shooting script stage.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

mirror.jpg

The mirror universe ISS Enterprise enters Federation space through a trans-dimensional portal. With the Terran Empire in disarray and rebellion (due to goateed Spock), Kirk, the ISS Enterprise, and one loyal ship head to the "mirror universe's Federation" for plunder and power.

The USS Enterprise, patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone, is sent by Starfleet at high warp to investigate a huge spacial anamoly that has suddenly appeared 15 light years away.

Caught by surprise as the Terran Empire ships exited the portal, this universe's Kirk and Spock realize that they cannot defeat the ISS Enterprise and ISS Devastation.

Instead, Kirk and Spock convince the ISS ships that Romulan worlds are ripe for the picking. They even have the ISS Enterprise scan the region. There are "no" ships protecting the Romulan worlds along the neutral zone.

Additionally, by this time, 6 Starfleet vessels are approaching. The ISS Enterprise and Devastation, looking for easy prey, cross the neutral zone and head towards the apparently undefend Romulan worlds....

Scotty asks the Captain, "don' they know the Romulans have cloaked ships?"

Spock answers for the Captian: "When the captain was in the mirror universe last year, he happened upon a history book which noted that the Terrans defeated and conquered the Romulans almost 100 years ago, long before they had cloaked ships."

Scotty, "Aye, I almost feel sorry for them, almost..."

The Romulans just assumed that this was Federation retaliation for their recent border incursions...

(Edited: Added phaser and photon fire and fleshed out the story and correct way too many mistakes and I'm sure I missed a couple along the way)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

I tried a little attempt myself, and discovered knowing what you want it to look like, and artistic talent are too completely different things.

This is supposed to be Mathalkon's fleet at Ultar, which could have been seen in an episode of the canceled Phase II Series, Kitumba - pt 2. Basically, the Klingon empire is building a massive fleet to invade the Federation, and a Klingon defector warns Kirk about it. Kirk must convince the sacred leader of the Klingons, known as the Kitumba, not to agree to Malthakon's proposal for war.

When I was making this, I had "clutter problems". It seemed way too crowded, but I couldn't think of another way of representing such a massive fleet (1,000 around ultar, and another 100 around the sacred planet). I also had trouble finding a good Bird of Prey picture, and, by the time I found one, I didn't want to crowd the picture any more than I did. In the fore-ground I added the D7 from Trials and Tribble-ations (It seemed to fit there, and it is the only non-K'T'inga Battlecruiser that I felt didn't look out of place in the front of the view). The Bird of Prey there was added because it was the first good one I could find.

Anyway, this is my first attempt ever, so I know its not as good as Warped9 and the other great pictures here, so be gentle ;)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

^^ Nice although a little crowded. :)

Here's another look at what a post TMP series or film could have looked like. Here Kirk's quarters are a little more decorated...
