A very quick and dirty pic from "The Enterprise Incident"

also nice

that feathers could have given the usage of Klingon cruisers in "Enterprise Incident" a water proof explanation!

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Yep, that was my thinking as well. And at some later point I'll make a cleaner and more patient attempt at this pic again.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Love the feathered look. Nice touch.

Ok, ive had a go at altering computer consoles. All it is is a pic of Spocks computer on the bridge, just with an added screen to show its a science computer instead of the gloss black look.

Its simple, i know, but i still havnt grasped a great knowledge of properly manipulating pictures yet, even though i have been doing it for a few years, i still cant it right.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

now that is great!!

But I think I would never recommend the redshirt for promotion if he stands there like a statue :p with a hostile alien in the same room...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^

Well, Uhura doesn't look all that concerned at the moment either. :) This scene could be accepted as the Vendorian being, er, interviewed after the main story events when the danger is now passed. The biggest challenge was extending the room. If I look really closely I can see where I was sloppy, but it's still interesting. I wanted to show the window placement to get a sense of where this room could be in relation to the outside hull and reflect what the window placement would look like from outside. The original vidcap is from "Space Seed" I believe and I wanted to push the wall back to get more of the room in. Originally I wanted to push the wall back even further to render TOS' version of it's real rec deck, but I saw it as too problematical and settled on envisioning a more complete briefing room.

The other problem, of course, was painting the Vendorian and trying to make a very alien looking 2D form blend into a live-action 3D scene. That's why I put him near the back of the room and so far from the p.o.v. I don't feel I was very successful here.

Note, though, how I also changed the original rather clunky and decidedly '50s looking computer terminal in front of Uhura for one of the sleeker and more modern looking terminals from the familiar briefing room table. :)

Niiiice.

Good extension, i cant see any faults apart from a little bit here and there.

Have you curved the outer bulkhead by anychance becuase it looks slightly curved.

Oh, and i love the 1701 cameo behind the security guard. :D

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Yes, I made an effort to curve the outer wall slightly to reinforce the idea that this room is at the outer rim of the saucer hull. The 1701 pic is of the Kirk era ship but modified to reflect the Pike era version and thus closer to what the ship supposedly looked like when launched. That pic also can be seen in large form earlier upthread.

The more I see it the more I like having those windows. It really reinforces the idea that this is a ship in deep space and gives the idea of the Enterprise a more substantial, more tangible feel.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ooooh, coolies. ;)

I wouldve figured though, that the sheer size of the hulls diameter that the curve of a bulkhead would not be noticable. Barely anyway.

Oh, and a few years ago a did a graphics project on the three round windows/sensor thingie majigs on the front of the saucer.
I didnt care about blueprints becuase i wanted something of my own on the ship.

So, i did a little fanfic to go with this project, it was where the official launch of the ship was conducted. Robert Aprils 'inaugeration' took place in a huge rec-room with three huge windows looking out to the stars.

This rec-room had a lower level and an upper, the lower had the tables and chairs we see in TOS, the upper level had larger tables and a bar.

on the steps was the registration of the ship, i have also explained why the plaque was not present on the bridge in pikes era... Becuase the plaque on Aprils and Pikes Enterprise was mounted on a plinth in front of the middle window. :p

Is it getting crowded in here or what?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

that is good... I never liked it that the shuttle decks were always empty (they did the same error in TNG as well) really good job!

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Thanks. I think this is one of my better efforts if I may say so myself. It's tremendously fun when it comes together. Here, by including a person in the shot, I think it gives the hangar deck and by extent the rest of the ship as well a truer sense of scale.

I think the hangar bay shot is one of your best. Really cool, and nicely done for the scale.

I agree with you about the person, and had to smile as I also observed the shadow of someone else in the observation gallery above. Subtle, but a nice touch to suggest a "lived-in" ship. :)

Best,
Alex

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

The hangar shot was partly motivated by a little b&w pic that I saw in the 1st edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia that showed the original hangar deck with more than one Class F shuttle in it. I was intrigued by the idea even if I thought that pic didn't quite come off. Also I've always rather liked that hangar deck pan shot in TAS even though the shuttles in there as well as the hangar itself were way oversized.

So far, if I may say so, my favourites are:
The WNMHGB version of the Enterprise hitting the energy barrier.
The tweaked Pike era bridge.
The live-action version of "The Slaver Weapon" scene on an icy planetoid.
The above "completed" hangar deck.

Other images I like and will try again to make them better are:
The series production Enterprise hitting the energy barrier.
The same as above speeding away from the galaxy.
The Pike era 1701 firing phasers, er excuse me, ship's lasers. :)
Enterprise speeding towards Andromeda.
The classic Romulan BoP.
The updated Romulan cruiser with appropriate hull art. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Now that shuttle bay shot is amazing, it adds depth and life to a sort of lifeless miniature.

And the increased size of the shuttle shows what it would really look like, especially with Scotty down there preparing the shuttle for launch. This is the kind of scene i used to put in in my head before launch, cos we just see it launched without prior prep work etc.

I love it.

Did you attempt to lower the lift/turntable so the shuttle is in mid lift to the launch bay?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ *Slaps own forehead!*

Doh! I hadn't even thought of that. What a cool idea--I may try it again. It's too bad we never got a glimpse of the shuttlecraft maintenace area below the flight deck. I may try my hand at compositing that somehow as I think it would look wild. When the shots work I love how it makes the Enterprise seem so much more substantial.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Oooh, maintenance bay.

I might have to wip something up in 3d about that, let my imagination run wild.

But take into account the shape of the hull under the hanger deck, a maintenance bay will be a little difficult to incoperate into the hull. unless we cheat and extend the length of the floor area of the so the maintenance deck is further forward to what it would be if the turntable/lift was left where it was.

I love this shot, but I personally think the shuttles and Scotty are too big. Just based on what the interior of the refit looked like in TMP, and based on the size of the windows in this shot. Still, great idea though :)
