Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Eventually I hope to get around to getting my own website up and running which will be devoted primarily to Star Trek TOS, TAS and the TMP era where I'll have articles, overviews on the show, the episodes, the characters, the TOS universe and the sci/tech aspects as well as quite a bit of the kind of imaging seen in this thread. I'll also be showcasing my own original work. It's really a matter of getting around to it.

The Enterprise struggles to escape the immense robot planet killer...

Mmmm...lunch.

Actually my initial idea for this shot was to show the Decker's shuttlecraft flying into the machine's maw, but when I scaled the shuttlecraft down to a more appropriate size it practically disappeared and was almost wholly indistinguishable from one of the background stars. To make the craft distinguishable and recognizable I would have had to really scale the planet killer way up.

The dark, cold and dead hulk of the once mighty Constellation...

Attack run. The Enterprise's phaser volleys explode ineffectively against the planet killer...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

I just wanted to say againhow much I am enjoying this thread. These shots have been really well done and are looking excellent!

Great job to one and all. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Thanks again. However I must say that I'm not really all that satisfied with my last two DDM efforts. I do like the basic concepts of the scenes, but something was lost in the translation to final execution. I do like the idea of using the 2nd pilot version of the 1701 as the basis for the wrecked Constellation as a visual cue to further distinguish between the two starships and further suggest that they are not all identically alike. And like my first scene of the E caught in front of the machine's maw I wanted to get away from the evident AMT model kit image of a ship.

The second scene of the E's attack run is little closer to what I wanted. I've always felt the original scene in the DDM was a little stale and I wanted something that evoked more of the exploding phaser bursts as seen in "Balance of Terror."

At some point I'll try redoing both shots to try getting closer to the final effect I want.

Now thats really creepy.

But i love it.

You can instantly tell the ships apart, and i aggree, its better than that guy taking a cogarette lighter to an AMT model, like what was doen for the episode.

My thoughts Exactly  These are really Awesome!! . I think this one is my favorite becasue its so rich with color. This is my favorite scene from all the Treks *lost with the theme music in his head*

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Ouch! :)

Okay, here's what I think (hope) is an improved version of the previous shot of the cold, dark hulk of the once mighty Constellation...

It was a bitch, but it was worth I think getting the name and registry in there more clearly to distinguish the ship. I also added more apparent wreckage to the bridge. This was a small bone with me because Spock in DDM actually says tthe bridge is damaged and uninhabitable and yet the Constellation miniature didn't show that--duh! I also took some more apparent chunks out of the hull. Finally I added a hint of yellow cast to the hull to connotate a, well, sickly feeling. :)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

yes it is an improvement, but I prefered the way to avoid the registry... good job about the bridge, didn't thought of that yet...

I thought they used a sparkler? I do the same thing to my model kits.

Same with me.

I had an old battered AMT 1701 kit, so, after i bought a new one from ebay, i took a candle to it and made myself a damaged enterprise, mainly becuase we didnt see a damaged Ent in the show. :D

Is it getting crowded in here or what?

I know I'm late to the party in responding to this particular picture but "That I like!".

The second F-104 picture is very nice as well. Just watched that episode this past weekend.

Nice work all around, keep it up.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ Thanks, FMM. This pic partly came about because I was inspired by the fantastic work of yours and Phil Broad's over on the PL modeling boards.

:)

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

Okay, guys, this is really crude. But here's a quick-and-dirty with little detail rendering of what my basic idea of the shuttlecraft maintenance bay could be like. I used the structural members from the briefing room to give it some architectural flair but then it's just a basic box. The angled walls on the right are towards the aft end of the ship and above the fantail...I think. The reason you cannot see the passage through the ceiling for the elevator to the flight deck is because the ceiling beams are obscuring it at this angle. My idea was to space the beams wide enough to allow the elevator to pass between the middle two.

So whaddya think?

I guesstimated that there should be enough space on either side--in this case in the background and foreground--for a shuttle to be parked sideways. Of course someone could check some hard dimensions and then tell me I'm full of crap, but at least I took a shot at it.

:)

Looking at it critically now I can see the wall's perspective on the left is wrong. And things would look much better with some people, doors and equipment in there to give it a better sense of scale, but overall this may be workable.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

that is very, very coll, but maybe you should use the set of the engineering room instead. IIRC it can be seen empty in "Concience of the King", don't have the time now to look that up...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

^^ When it was used in CoTK it was totally bare and used as a theatre auditorium. And the ceiling would be too high. Remember that there really isn't that much room beneath the hangar deck near the fantail--in fact I have to wonder if my ceiling here isn't just a bit too high still. Anyways later on I'll try adding some detail of equipment and people and stuff just for the hell of it.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

You're on the right track with it.
Some schematics on the walls or a shuttle in pieces would add to the overall effect. I think that being that it's the first time any of us have seen this room, we shouldn't be too critical. ;) I like the beginings so far.

Man, this has become my favorite thread here.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice.

all I can say is "keep this thread going!"

Great job to all.
