Never seen TOS scenes, but would've been nice...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Well for the TMP version the secondary hull is basically a deflector dish and the shuttle bay (with related cargo area). The bay/cargo area extends along almost the entire length of the secondary hull.

Perhaps, but I'm just going by what he said in the published interviews.

Agreed, though I was mainly focusing on the relative appearances of the shuttlebays themselves, not the cargo bay as well. That cargo bay might well still exist in the 1701-A, as well, and indeed a number of sources sugggest that it did, with the elevator area and the solid wall at the forward end of the shuttlebay being the major structural changes from one design to the other.

Much of that, of course, is conjecture, so my main reaction is, "Have at it!" :)

Best,
Alex

^ More or less. :)

Thanks for the link. I always assumed the pictures in Mr Scott's Guide to the Enterprise were earlier designs. Pity the more elaborate versions (with shuttles, parked workbees and lifeboats) didn't make it into the movie, or even the Director's Edition.

That was a conscious decision on the part of Robert Wise. He didn't want the visual impact of the Shuttle Surak delivering Spock diluted by having the audience think, "Oh that thing, again", had an identical aerospace vehicle been featured earlier in the film.

^ Overly? Not for a 30 second visual moment...you want it to be as freah and as interesting as you can.

This isn't "New Era" but something I just cooked up in Photoshop...

Good photoshop work. That looks real.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Thanks! That one took about 4 tries. I usually stink at that sort of thing but got lucky on that one. Here's another that's more inline with what I'm usually able to accomplish.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Fanastic thread... just found it, spent a couple enjoyable hours perusing the great work. I like the character manips better then the ship shots, but that's just me.

Most liked the photo of Pike in a TWOK uniform.

Any possibility of putting Yeoman Colt in a TWOK uniform?

Or of doing any of Matt Jeffries initial designs for the Enterprise, from 1964?

Thanks,

Sir Rhosis

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

The character manips are the most fun and they're also the most challenging to make work seamlessly. I had a lot of fun staging the scene of Pike transfering cammond to Kirk and showing Fleet Captain Pike in a TOS era uniform meeting with Spock before the refit Enterprise embarks on her 5-year voyage.

Other favourites are the imagined live-action scene of "the Slaver Weapon" with the shutlecraft Copernicus landed on an icy planetoid and the hangar deck with actually more than one shuttlecraft in it.

Actually the more I think of it I've quite a few favourites in here. :)

Yeoman Colt is a hottie. Can we get her in a TOS mini-skirt?

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

I was wondering how about a similar but more stealthy looking Romulan BoP for "The Deadly Years" Prehaps one that's a little beaten up...

Re: Never seen TOS scenes...

Here's an image taken from 'Mudd's Women', a scene I always thought could be improved by some minor digital tlc. The significant change here is the addition of some lights and gadget on the computer monitor, and a more complex screen graphic (although I did retain the heart monitor effect). Also added a port window directly behind Mudd...
