News Netflix to buy Warner Brothers

Besties? Doubt it. I think the Ellisons are using Trump for their own ends.

More like the other way around, I think. I think it's entirely possible Trump put him up to it when they had their little meeting, hoping that it results in WB aligning with his own interests. That is why I think Paramount has been so agressive towards WB. I wouldn't be surprised if WB change their minds about selling.

Trump Bought Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery Bonds Following $83 Billion Merger Deal Announcement
A White House financial disclosure shows the president acquired up to $1 million worth of corporate bonds issued by each company in December

That's not a conflct of interest, no sir!

And btw, that headline is confusing, in that it makes people think Trump bought Netflix, when what he really did was bought Netflix and WBD corporate bonds.

More of Netflix's demands

I mean at this point why not? They already handled butt dialing by making the buttons harder to press.
Instead of just telling people, "don't keep your phone in your butt pocket, imbeciles"

As the ancient saying goes, "sometimes it is important to keep reading past the fifth word"

Especially when a headline is misleading, and in this case it almost seems purposefully worded to mislead people into think Trump bought Netflix. Only when you read the actual story does it mention he bought bonds from both companies, rather than Netflix directly.

Why this is important and what this could mean is that if Trump has enough shares of each, he could block the merger and hand it off to Paramount. No sitting President should technically be allowed to buy shares while in office, as this shows a pure conflict of interest, in taking sides to benefit his own interests.

More of Netflix's demands

This is why you have to go to the theatre these days or get a subscription to BritBox or Criterion or watch foreign films with subtitles. If I can look at my phone while watching, then I'm not really watching. Of course, maybe this shift is why I've gone from reading 1 book a year to 50 books a year over the last five years.

One big exception to this on Netflix is Dark. You can't watch that and look at your phone because of subtitles. And you actually have to think. But I think, Matt is right that the rule is that most watch distracted, but there are some good exceptions to the rule like Adolescence.

It astounds me that out of all of the services portrayed in that image, Netflix the one that I have the least interest in. Except for one month to watch Prodigy season 2, I haven't had Netflix since 2017.

I watch more YouTube videos than any of the other streaming services combined; and the MST3K YouTube channel has recently uploaded all of Jonah Heston's episodes, so why would I go to Netflix and pay for it when I can watch it for free.
