News Netflix orders series ‘Another Life’ Starring Katee Sackhoff

The thing to me, that kept it in the ‘just OK’ category was that it was just riddled with every sci-fi trope they could find. It’s like they had a check list of tropes and just checked the boxes off every episode when they crammed another one in.
This is what I noticed. I'm up to episode six now, but when it really hit me was when they landed on the forest moon (Star Wars) and were carrying P-90s (Stargate.)

Watched it. What a mess. What a waste of potential. Baaarf :barf:
Katee Sackhoff is the only halfway decent thing in this crapfest, but she doesn't come close to be able to carry this by herself.
And it's not even "so bad it's good" It's just bad. At least there won't be a season 2. Pretty sure will completely forget this thing existed couple weeks from now.

Is it bad that this fluffiness is more entertaining?

I'm half way through the first episode, and I really don't like this crew they put together. You have this strange alien thing, the general puts someone in charge (We don't know anything about her) and the one guy is pretty much close to a mutiny. Most of this episode is how people miss other people and the mission feels almost secondary. I can understand why this series is panned.

So, I watched the pilot, and while it feels like it's going for Arrival meets Interstellar at times, the dialogue and the science are pretty unrealistic. Worse yet are the crew. I don't know why they have to be so angst-ridden, but the way they go at it strikes me as very unprofessional and I wouldn't trust my life with them. I guess there's no room for any calm rational people on board. The fact that they've supposedly been trained for a mission like this and they're acting like this is a big one as I really don't get the feeling they know what they're doing and have big chips on their shoulders. And the fact that they don't wear uniforms adds to that effect, IMHO. Will continue watching out of curiosity, but don't hold out much hope for it.

I managed to get through it to the end. I think the worst parts are easily the first 3 episodes. Everyone in those episodes are at each other's throats for no apparent logical reason, and I feel that robs the show from any characterization. But starting with the 4th episode, the crew starts acting more like a crew, and actually starts to gel. The difference was rather startling. It's as if they had a different team of writers who realized the show needed to show some direction and actual characters, because from that point on, it starts to feel more like a regular drama in space with characters that are a lot more interesting than they started out being. By the end of the first season, I'm surprised to hear me say it, it actually feels quite decent. The first 3 episodes must have been quite some hell to film for the actors involved.

If I was the captain, I'd be like.. Which one of you is the engineer? you, ah good, come on over here.. all the rest of you go in to this little room for a minute, just need to talk to the engineer in private.. seals door, opens airlock and spaces the rest of the idiots.. looks at the engineer.. it was for the best.. our ratings will only improve from here on.. Oh why did I save you? well we took a poll and the rest said you were the least anoying! .. Welp.. time to wake up some better actors! NEXT!!

Ugh.. Horrid show.. And I'm all for so bad its good shows.. I like Hudson Hawk!!

Towards the end I felt like "hey I do want to see what happens next but won't be in a hurry to see it" I liked the Power Rangers movie. So I like differing levels of bad.

Renewed? Its as if millions of voices cried out.. and were suddenly silenced.. THIS gets a second season?? Wow... I mean.. wow... Must have cost like a Buck .38 to make then..

It got better as the season went on, but that this got renewed while Tuca and Bertie got canceled is a travesty.

Netflix is facing losing a large number of subscribers to Disney +, so obviously they are going to do anything possible to keep as many as possible.

From what I understand - Netflix has yet to see actual profit (they've been taking all the money and continuing to buy/produce content); and I believe they just took a near $2 billion loan to stay solvent and continue to produce. With all these other premium services coming online, I start to wonder how much longer Netflix can sustain this business model of theirs.

Holy frack. CGI did look like it wasn't that expensive, but sets must have cost some money. Look for slashed budget in Season 2. And omg, get rid of all the annoying crew, please.

Plot twist. They all die and this is the dying memories of Katee Sackhoff's character as the ship slowly explodes in Earth Orbit and the aliens deep fry Earth.

Extra plot twist. The destruction of Earth was revenge for sending that crew out to meet them.

Netflix usually renews pretty much everything until season 3, at which point pretty much everything gets cancelled.

Let’s not forget the 5 billion dollar—and growing—debt and the only source of income is subscribers. And Disney will pull content, Warners, etc.

The studios have other sources of income: ticket sales, theme parks, ad revenue, etc.

There’s only so much Stranger Things merch Netflix can push.

Sooner or later they are gonna have to raise their rates again.
