Nero=Uglier Shinzon. Discuss

Bana has more gravity and menace.

I don't think I could ever see the person who played Poida as having gravity and menace.

As noted above, Nero sure as hell doesn't dress as well as Shinzon.

Au contraire. Even though his costume isn't as expensive-looking, it's not as theatrical and thus says something about his character. He's a more practical man than Shinzon, and has no need for pomp or flair.

The newly released Nero image backs up the vibe I get from this guy IMO.

Look at him, he's thinking pretty darned hard about something.

("Hmm, where did I leave that photon torpedo-proof fridge?" :p)

His face looks a little round and chubby as well...

I think that's only because we're used to seeing skeletal-faced Romulans of the TNG era, with sunken cheeks and protruding bones.

If anything, I'm less enthusiastic about the interior of his ship. "A cross between the Death Star and Mordor"??? Hmm... why does their ship have to look eeeevil?

In the EW article it talks about how Nero and his crew are rouges, which is probably why they have him in such a ratty looking costume. They also compare them to pirates a little too. So I think they are probably going for more of a down and dirty look for him.

One thing i noticed -- no eye brow ridges!

My concerns...the name. That just doesn't sound right for a Romulan. Now, if it's a nickname he'd given by a Fed, OK. (And Romulans are revealed as Rihannsu -- then i could definitely lvive with the name). If the name is a description/codename of the character, that would make me feel better...

But how will they show a Romulan interacting with our crew, if they have never seen a Romulan before? Will he tell them that he is a time traveling Vulcan? If this has been discussed -- can you direct me to the right thread?

Speaking of time traveling Vulcans, will Kirk meet old Spock? It would mess things up because Kirk never said "Oh well, he'll come back some how, I met him when he was old." when Spock died in TWOK.

I'd say the reaction is superficial at best. Motivation, and how Bana acts will no doubt bring a huge distinction between the two.

Um, psychological warfare. They're the Romulan Star Empire. One must assume that they didn't conquer and get to where they are with nice, shiny, white ships and kind words.

Maybe it's the English equivalent of his real name. In any case, who cares? Did anyone back in '66 express any concerns when a Vulcan we are familiar with was named after the 20th century's most respected pediatrician?

What's the staff all about anyway? A TIME TRAVEL STAFF?

I vote for whomping stick.

Possibly with the patented "zapper" upgrade.

I generally get the feeling that this character is going to be one who's had his share of knocks and scrapes, and has been at whatevers he's at for a long while. The ship and clothes would naturally have to express that. I'm looking forward to watching him (and Bana) in action.

That's it! They are fighting the Goa'uld! That would actually be awesome to see on screen.

Why not? They don't view themselves as evil. Their ships have a history of looking very neat, clean, and advanced.

Now, if its merely rugged and functional looking, that's one thing. But EEEEVIL?

It doesn't even look like a ship. It looks like he carved a chair out of a boulder, and he's hanging out in a cave.
