I couldn't care less what Nero LOOKS like. I just hope, like Khan, that he's a scary, dangerous badass who poses a real threat to our heroes.

The problem with all the other Khan-wannabes over the years was that the writers humanized and softened them up to such a degree (Soran just wanted to get back to his family, Ru-afo just wanted to be young, etc) that they ceased to be at all threatening.

Hopefully Abrams' writers didn't make that same mistake with Nero....

As for where Nero is, it says specifically in the one of the captions for the picture that he is on the brige of his ship.
