Nemesis on AMC

The commercials for it on that channel make it look like a great movie. I am down on this film more because it did so poorly that it will be a while before we see that era on TV or at the movies. It killed TNG. The story was weak over all because so few of the characters were written in character. Still, there are a few scenes and plotlines that were worthwhile: Wil and Deanna getting married and Data making the ultimate sacrifice to save his friends. I could list the problems, but then we've done that ad nauseum. This movie is watchable, if disappointing but it's still better than TFF. Worst. Movie. Ever.

TFF had more originality, balls and soul. NEMESIS had infinitely better action and effects and most of the acting was superior, but it was just a flashy, ultra-budget two part TNG episode designed to kill off Data and reintroduce the Romulans as a threat after all those years of the Dominion and Borg arcs.

Couldn't agree more. :techman: The Final Frontier is far, far from being a perfect movie (or even a perfect Star Trek movie), but it's still got more heart, more warmth, and more love than Nemesis (and, I contend, any of the Next Generation films, but that's a different argument for a different time). There are things I liked about Nemesis (especially the aforementioned Riker/Troi wedding), but its weaknesses far outnumber its strengths.

NEMESIS could have at least shown the USS Titan in Earth orbit, hovering somewhere near the Enterprise-E in her repair drydock. We had to wait until Pocket Books novels about Riker and the Titan came out to see what his ship looked like and what her registry was. You'd think they'd have inserted a quick CGI Titan floating in the background somewhere just to give the Riker story some closure but nooooooo.

Now, THIS I agree with.

Are you kidding? We'd probably have spent the last six years arguing about the design of the ship, in what would ultimately be a throwaway effects shot.

You're also assuming everybody gave a crap about "giving the Riker story some closure." The central characters of TNG had long before shifted away from the Picard-Riker-Data triumvirate at the beginning to more of a Picard-Data-Worf, especially with Ron Moore's penchant for Klingon stories. Somehow I doubt Frakes was too broken up about that, either, since he transitioned into directing episodes about the same time.

The whole movie was a mistake from beginning to end, and I'd just as soon forget it happened, except it stands as a great comparison to Wrath of Khan about what happens when you bring in "fresh blood" and they refuse to do their homework.
