Nemesis - Extended Ending

Nice work Stew, I think this version of the ending is a vast improvement . Its quite clear that we won't see another TNG movie and like many I was left underwhelmed by Nemesis. I hope that one day Paramount puts together a special edition that can salvage this movie and give the fans a film that at least gets a little closer to giving the TNG crew the fitting swansong they deserved.

No, no, people have been making ``put seatbelts on the Enterprise!'' jokes since about September 22, 1966, and one of these days somebody's bound to make one that's funny.

Great work!

I like this ending much better than the original one. But I have to say that it also showcases the terrible writing of Nenesis. Could't they think of any better exchange btw. Picard and Riker than "It's been an honor." - "The honor is mine."? And also the Picard/B4-scene where Picard tells us flat-out what the character of Data was supposed to be about. It sounds like he has it from some random guidebook on Star Trek - "Data's quest to be more human is about showing us what it means to be human". It all sounds so by-the-numbers.

I love how the seatbelt a) is activated with a goofy CG effect and b) looks like something out of Six Flags.

I much prefer the ending we got.

How about Star Trek Generations alternate ending? The one where Kirk is in the space suit and gets shot or something...they even had an action figure of this from the movie, heard they scrapped it because test audiences hated it? Anyway, I'd like to see that.

I know that but I doubt Berman has that much sense of Star Trek history. Trust me that sucker deliberately tied that into Enterprise he's not subtle enough to do otherwise.

That's interesting, but I prefer the original ending, or at least, the last scene should be the B4 scene, and the seat belt thing should be cut entirely. Not sure Data's quarters seems like filler, too.

I don't think the B4 scene needs to be in the movie considering it ended up being the finale of the TNG movie franchise. It was only needed to set up a sequel. I don't think it brought any emotional resonance to the movie because who really cared about B4's reaction to Data's death?

You're getting two seperate scenes confused there: there was an alternate opening scene that would have intertwined with the bottle in space, with Kirk skydiving through the atmosphere wearing said spacesuit. Chekov and Scott meet him to remind him about the Enterprise-B opening ceremony.

The alternate ending does feature Kirk getting shot in the back, and both these scenes are on the SE DVD for Generations.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. The majority (though not all) opinion seems to be that the B4 scene is superfluous, and that the bridge scene would work better without the seatbelt gag. So here it is, version 2 of the extended ending:

Star Trek Nemesis - Extended Ending (Version 2)

With the following changes:

- Picard/B4 scene completely removed, with the Picard/Beverly conversation coming straight after the drydock shot.
- Brief music cue added over end of Beverly scene to try and better disguise the tail end of 'The Enterprise' cue before Riker walks into the ready room.
- All spoken references to the new captain's chair completely removed.
- Cat effects for Spot added. :D

I like this version much much more, and it's a good three minutes shorter than the last one. Everything flows a lot better (Picard isn't jumping about all over the place now), the TFF fanfare works better for Picard's little smile about Riker's joke than it did for the seatbelt, and with said seatbelt gag removed, the scene works much better purely focusing on Commander Madden. All IMO of course.

Oh... what could've been :(

The scene with Worf and Geordi in Data's quarters was, for lack of a better word, beautiful - the slow pan across the Sherlock Holmes book and the pipe.

Wow.

The Beverly scene was nice too, reading the novelization made me want this scene in the movie.

The chair scene was weak though... and for Worf to just walk away from that prick without baring his teeth or something... just shameful. Martin Madden was bad too, though it's nice to see that Riker was having fun til the end.

It's not without it's faults, but overall, this is a better ending.

I want a re-cut. Fix the ending. Put "Chateu Picard" back in.

Paramount - It's HIGH time this wrong be righted.

I like the 1st one better. It makes me want another TNG movie! This movie could have been so good, but it was the Director who cared nothing for Trek that really put this one in the Crapper.

PS. The chair is Archer's in the 4th season of ENT.

yeah the second ending is even better imho. cutting out the b4 scene alone makes it better. and i would love to see a new cut of the film although please not a directors cut. Just a new cut that cannonically replaces the theatrical cut.

* Insert the Chanteu Picard scene, use this ending, insert the Mess Hall scene
* Insert the Picard/Crusher scene before the battle
* Insert the 'Recommend Extreme Caution' scene with Picard and Worf before they arrive at Romulas
* The scene with Picard and Crusher in his quarters prehaps dubbing over the 30 years reference with 20 years to make it more acceptable.
* The second mind-rape scene
* Troi/Picard scene with the line "it was like a part of me had been stolen..."
* Also the Worf getting shot and saved by a Romulan scene if it was actually shot.

TOTALLY AWESOME! :D :D :D Thanks for taking my notes into account. That was the perfect ending to not only the movie but TNG as well! Great! :D :D :D

This was indeed good stuff - and I guess which version you like better would depend on which context you'd prefer to enjoy the film in. I never liked the chair gag, and the second one offers more closure on TNG as a whole, so my vote is for that one. However, IMO I still think the best ending is what we got. To quote an earlier post I made on the matter in another thread here:

"For me, the single best moment was the very last shot of Picard. He's just left his quarters after overhearing B4 mumbling Data's wedding song to himself. Here's our Captain, having just lost half the crew he's spent fifteen years with. His ship's in pieces, and there are strangers coming in to replace his departed comrades. As he silently walks down the corridor, he's frowning... And it slowly turns to a smile. Why? Because despite all this change, all this tragedy, he KNOWS that things are going to be all right. He accepts this, and we know he and his ship are also going to be fine. And the film ends on that note.

For me, the final scene of a film, and often the final shot, are what I remember best and how I judge the film overall. For all its flaws, the final scenes of "Nemesis" are great and sum up TNG very well for me. I much prefer what we got in the final cut to be better than the relatively comedic Madden/chair/joke scene we COULD have been treated to, and I believe it was the better choice."

Nemesis - Extended (maybe) Edition

Well, following on from this little project and my "The Pegasus: Special Edition" project last year, I've decided to go ahead and try to re-edit the entire movie (though don't think I'll get away with putting the whole thing on YouTube ;)).

Started off by putting all the deleted scenes back into the film in the places where they were supposed to go, and for the most part they all fit in nicely. The movie now runs at 2hrs 12mins or so (and it's the PAL version so the runtime would really be 2hrs 17mins or so for NTSC) and is a bit... bulky.

Someone suggested a couple of posts above what they would keep/remove in the film, but I'm curious to see more opinions (please, useful comments only, so no "I would remove everything but the credits" and suchlike). What would you remove/keep? The buggy chase? A lot of B4's stupid dialogue?

Re: Nemesis - Extended (maybe) Edition

I would cut out the first half of the scene where Data transfers his memory ingrams to B4 as that scene only served to set up The Search for Data. I'd leave just enough of the scene for Data to discover B4's extra port as that ties into B4 being used as Shinzon's spy.

I'd also cut out a lot of the endless shots of Riker and the Viceroy fighting it out. The fight doesn't really get cool until the end anyway. I'm more interested in the battle of wills between Picard and Shinzon.

Also I know that this idea ia a little... crazy. I've never liked the mind rape scenes. They seemed added just to show how Troi is able to find the Scimitar at the end but they're not really needed. Early in the movie Troi senses the Scimitar, she even says, "They're out there." That establishes Troi's empathic ability from the start.

So I say cut Shinzon wanting to touch Troi's hair. Cut the mind rape. During the scene where Deanna is trying to sense the Viceroy cut that part where she's like "Remember me?"

Now that's just my opinion and you're welcome to cut it any way you like but I thought that the mind rapes were unnecessary as Shinzon was doing enough to justify blowing him up.

As for B4... Less is more. People talk about how annoying Jar Jar is but he was still more essential to the plot of TPM than B4 was to Nemesis. He's really only needed as someone on the Enterprise who'll spy for Shinzon. Limit his role to that of a walk on and that'll be cool.

Also I was thinking that maybe there's a way to cut the B4 scavenger hunt together that could omit that ridiculous chase scene in the desert. I mean we see them land, they find B4 and then we cut to them putting him together on the Enterprise.

Just my ideas but I think they'd make the pace a little faster and cut out a lot of crap.

Is that, I'm presuming, a redoing the TNG episode with the stuff from ENT: TATV put in too. That would be great to see if you've done it? :)

I think I saw some of that last year. It was awesome.
