Nemesis - Extended Ending

Yeah, I can see that... But perhaps you can edit the voiceover, so that, just as the TMP\TFF\TNG theme is about to play, you cut to the film's version of that theme, as smooth as possible.

The idea is, this is TNG's end, and it should bookend its start, right?

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

Well I have finally restarted work on this, actually from scratch as I am now working from the Region 1 DVD rather than the Region 2: trying to pitch-correct the soundtrack with PAL speedup was getting too tiresome, amongst other reasons.

Anyway, I have redone the opening credits again, and on Emperor-Tiberius's suggestion tried putting Picard's voiceover at the end of the film: as predicted its a nice idea, but the result is two different versions of the Courage fanfare playing at the same time. Tried a few filters etc but you can still hear the original music behind the voice. Will post both clips tonight hopefully.

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

Here we go:

Opening Titles - Version 3

Similar to the previous versions, with the following changes:
- 'Paramount Pictures Presents' and 'Star Trek Nemesis' captions redone
- Mulgrew's name added back in, along with an 'and' title above it
- Credits rearranged based on the order of the 'First Contact' credits
- Credits *severely* sped up, now half the length of the previous version
- Transition from credits to shot of Romulus greatly improved
The transition still isn't perfect, but its about the best I am ever going to get it. At least it doesn't involve a dodgy bitmap zooming towards the screen anymore. The audio transitions from the three different pieces of music have also been improved, but again, not perfect.

Having encoding problems at the moment so the voiceover test will come later.

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

Very nice opening credits.

For the ending, I personally think the best ending is still Picard walking down the corridor following his conversation with B4. It ends the movie on a note of hope, plus I just plain don't like the Commander Madden stuff.

Here's how I picture the ending:

The wake for Data
Geordi and Worf packing up Data's things
Picard and Beverly's final conversation
Picard and Riker say goodbye
Picard and B4 talk, B4 hums the "Blue Sky" lyrics, Picard walks off with a smile

I know that ending has Picard bouncing all over the place, but he's saying goodbye to those who are leaving.

Either way, nice work. I just wish I could see all those old clips you put up on YouTube and your own domain way back when. They're all gone now. :(

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

I thought the video transition was GREAT! Absolutely must keep the video of this intact. But the audio needs a bit work.

I still maintain your first version was the bestest. Not that the other two were bad, but the first had a harmony.

I think, once STAR TREK NEMESIS appears, you should keep that small silence you had on the original, and then proceed with the somber notes of that theme. Otherwise, this version is really fine.

Also, for the ending, here's how I think the ending should be edited:

* The wake for Data
* Geordi and Worf packing up Data's things
* Picard and Beverly's final conversation
* Riker messing up with Madden
* Picard and Riker say goodbye
* Picard and B4 talk, B4 hums the "Blue Sky" lyrics, Picard walks off with a smile
* Picard to the bridge, Madden making a fool of himself, Picard saying "out there", and as we pan out, we hear Picard's TNG voiceover, one last time... Without the seatbells joke, of course.
* Credits

Anywho, thats how I think the ending would work. I only suggest Riker-Madden before Picard-Riker, because the video quality from Picard-Crusher to Picard-Riker is too apparent. Have Riker-Madden first, as a buffer, and also to have Riker-Picard as the last exchange Riker has before leaving.

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

Here is the film's original ending with the voiceover on top (ignore the credits glitch towards the end). As I said before, its nice, but unfortunately the TV theme is clearly audible behind Picard's voice (this is after various filters to try and screen out the music). The only other source of the monologue as far as I know is from Elite Force 2, and Stewart just sounded completely bored during that rendition.

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

I think the sound editing is fine. I'll hear it again and respond in a few hours.

I must ask, will you not use the extended ending provided in the DVD? I like how Picard said they're going... "Out there." Makes perfect sense to me.

Well?

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

Fear not the extended ending will be there (thought in what form I havent decided yet), the last clip just used the original ending for quickness.

Re: Nemesis - Extended Edition

What is with the "video removed at request of Liongate films" on YouTube.

Paramount owns Trek, last time I checked!

I see, thank you. And anywho, you do have at least three lists of suggestions on how the ending should be, one from me, so....

Anywho, I'm listening to the ending right now. I think you did a great job. And I think you should keep it.

Bravo!

Great work as always StewMc. Not long ago, I had a go at editing TOS "The Doomsday Machine" to put in those Enhanced CG shots created by Daren Dochterman. So I know how frustrating it can get. I'm current working on a personal project to restore "The Undiscovered Country" back to it's theatrical version... Just for personal use, of course and not in your league, with photoshop tweaking and remaking the credits from scratch. Plain cutting and some reordering.

This project is really coming along. The picture is spot on in the new version of the opening credits. The sound needs to be tweaked just a little bit, but that's an easy fix.

I'm not so sure about using the voice over at the end, though. It just doesn't mesh with the images. Maybe with the extended ending, I'm not 100% remembering how the final beats of that scene go.
