Neilson Ratings: 6 years on, the joke isn't funny anymore

John_Picard, I know that TiVo works off an antenna, so you can record off terrestrial TV. Also a lot of cheap non-subscription DVRs over here in the UK work for Digital TV via an antenna, so I suppose if the signal is strong enough in your area then you could use one of those types if they're available in the US at any point.
No kidding? I was told a DVR wouldn't work, so I gave up my quest to purchase one. Thanks for the info! :techman:

However, this comment makes no sense:

Why wouldn't people without cable use a DVR? They'd need a DVD player to play rentals, because you can't find VHS rentals. ...

I'm not entirely sure about the Series 2 DT models, but I know the Series 1 models did analogue too.

Series 2 definitely does analog, I use mine for analog cable without a cable box (and thus, it is acting as a tuner).

Well, it would do me no good to buy an analog capable DVR since that signal will be gone in a little over two months. I need to save my money and get a flat panel digital television.

I believe the Tivo HD has ATSC/Digital tuners as well as analogue. Although they're $299 plus monthly subs.

Sorry, I thought I made it clear---hooking a VCR and a DVD player both to the TV has caused problems with the signal splitter and/or connections degrading the signal. But then, I've never had an antenna, so the difficulties that some DVR players have with the signal were unknown to me.
