Neelix...Why all the hate?

OK, I get what you're saying. I thought you were saying Neelix is a microcosm of how Voyager went wrong, which didn't make sense, but you were just saying he was the most OBVIOUS example of something to criticize, right?

(But I really like both characters of Qui-Gon and Tuvok. Really, they're both just so cool.)

And they did kind of go to far in making Janeway jack-of-all trades, renaissance woman, expert tactician/engineer/scientist.

Yeah, thats what I was try to say, apologies if I wasnt clear the first time. I think thats a pretty good description of Janeway. Its weird, with Voyager I sort of almost like it, it nearly worked for me.

Voyager was taken to another part of the galaxy while on a routine, boring little mission. So the crew is basically a snapshot of whoever was assigned there for even a temporary assignment. Tuvok was part of that little assignment. So even if his character wasn't necessary for the show, he was necessary because he was part of the beginning storyline. It's like what people have been saying about Pike in the TOS forum: when we first see him (original timeline/universe, not JJverse), he's at a real down point in his life. In this Voyager case, it might have been a bad day, but now they're all stuck together for the duration of the show. (Unless, they 'somehow' lose Tuvok...)

For some reason, every time there's a mention of Netflix somewhere, frakking Neelix comes my mind.
:wah:

neelix happened to be one of my favourite characters, i was very dissapointed he didn't stay with the voyager crew to go all the way back to Earth, still he still couldn't beat "Tom Paris, Harry Kim or Tuvok" for my favourite characters

A Harry Kim fan.
Finally. :)

Wow really? Maybe you should find a different show. You're an embarrassment to trek fandom

Even if Neelix wasn't my very first favourite character (Janeway), neither the second (Tuvok) or the third (Tom), I like Neelix too, His jovial character (even if I know that this trait could sometimes be heavy and tiring), his kindness, generosity ;
disarming simplicity and open mind.
For me Neelix was a fair balance with the Doctor who was damn temperamental and had terrible bed manner.

So, I guess that for you, I must be another embarrassment to the Trek fandom, right?

Previously I hated Neelix. In my current viewing I like him a bit more.

He is annoying. As a kid, he’s the adult trying to entertain you as if you’re still a little kid. As a slightly older adult, he’s the dumb kiddy thing sillying up your sci-fi adventure.

Now, when he’s trying to break the tension he works fine. And when he is acting as a lonely trader trying to make a home on Voyager he’s fine. But sometimes he gets annoyingly jealous or takes the mannerisms over the top, making him just plain annoying.

Any episode where Neelix is isolated with a single other character and they work out their differences it tends to be a bad episode.

Got anything more constructive to say other than to troll someone in an 8 year old thread? Please don't do it again or, as has been mentioned, your time will be brief on this board.

Neelix was a poorly imagined character, for the most part badly written.

That he overcame his annoyingness and became a sympathetic character is, in my opinion anyway, entirely due to the talent of Ethan Phillips.

The first two and a half years, Neelix is this jealous, borderline stalker guy ready to kill Tom Paris. Then Neelix and Kes break up and they just go on like nothing ever happened. Doesn't really fit the profile of a jealous, stalker kind of guy.

The character needed a re-tune. I really did not care for the jealousy when he and Kes were a couple. After Kes kicked him to the curb Neelix became more tolerable.
