I'll try and make this short: I started to get severe headaches and body aches/sore ears/throat last tuesday. Followed it up with doctors until the tuesday just gone - went to hospital with a fever of nearly 108. Was put in isolation (head of infection control at the hospital made the call), and was put on an amoxil (antibiotic) drip until thursday night. Discharged on friday with taking 1000mg amoxil and some other one 3 times a day, but it's been far too rough on my insides (going to the can about 20 times a day). Went to my doc today, he put me on a much lower dosage of another antibiotic, but apparently I have a collapsed lung (! - he must mean it just isn't working as well), and I need to breathe in hot water + eucalyptus oil over a sink, with a towel, every 4 hours.
Been doing that twice now, and taking some cough medicine that's meant to help you cough up stuff, but nothing is really coming up. I feel fine, and I cough up just fine when I'm laying down in bed. I don't want to screw up my lungs, but my body just doesn't want to get rid of the nasty stuff laying on my chest! With the bucket thing, I feel like the stuff is loosening on my chest and about to come out, but it doesn't get further than my throat.
Anything else I can do to get it out? The doc wants to see me again on thursday, so it must be serious because he never wants to see me very often. I'm normally every healthy - had a similar thing but just needed a drip for a few hours, about 5 years ago, and I only get actually sick every 5 years or so (colds and stuff maybe about twice a year). I'm normally in perfect health, so the idea of something suddenly being wrong with my lungs (not a smoker btw) really scares me!
