NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

Hmmm, I'm actually a little optimistic about Penn State's chances of winning the Big Ten this year.

That said, go Wisconsin.

They clearly belong in this game and on this field.

They've certainly done nothing to prove that this season.

Thus far, they've beaten a 1-AA foe handily, been outplayed and outhustled by the Ohio Bobcats (salvaging the game on special teams only), and been shown rather conclusively to not belong on the same field with Southern California.

Care to wager whether another set of Trojans gives them a tussle next week? Troy is no pushover.

I will give you this: They're a lot better than Rutgers! :techman:

Be as biased as me if you like. ;)!

Ohio State still deserved to be in that game. This isn't a bowl game, in case you'd forgotten. In the first half were a worthy opponent. But in that second half, it came out just how good USC really is. I'm not sure which was the more impressive - the USC offense, defense or coaching.

That was a beautiful game last night.

USC looked so good in all aspects of the game, while OSU looked completely lost out there. 200 yards of total offense? That's not gonna do the job.

I can only hope that USC stays healthy and keep rolling.

FIGHT ON!!!

:techman:

Ugh. South Carolina gave the game away again. Two opportunities to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Both times we couldn't connect. A fumble into the end zone from the two-yard line and an interception from the three-yard line with 0:09 left in the game. Our defense was stellar, and Georgia did not look like the #2 team in the nation, but our fucking offense still can't seal the deal.

Tough loss last night Neroon. Ohio State showed some promise in the first half, especially on their only scoring drive. But they got away from what was working, and it was all down hill from there.

Oregon has lost their starting quarterback for two to four weeks with a knee injury. Only three games into the season and we're already down to our third string QB, backed up by two true freshmen. Ugh.

Can anyone beat USC. They are an insanely good football team. Damn what a beat down. I expected it to be a much closer game though and pity it wasn't.

Frankly, I don't think a defeat of Ohio State proves anything about USC except that they can hold serve at home. The Buckeyes have stumbled and looked incompetent on the national stage so often it's become something to anticipate, perhaps even to expect.

The OSU should have lost to Ohio, and would have if the Bobcats' special teams had managed a decent game.

I'll not believe the Buckeyes are for real until and unless they run the table to Northwestern—which will require wins at Wisconsin and over a resurgent Penn State.

Until then, they're all talk and no results.

Ditto. The worst part of it for me was that in the first half OSU was beating itself. Those two silly penalties made all the difference in the world. The crushing blow seemed to be Maualuga's interception for a TD. You just sensed the OSU team deflating.

Okay, that was only the second worst thing. THE worst was how the Buckeyes never came out of the locker room in the second half. There was no energy, no pride. You can blame the players for most of that, but I have to lay much of it on the coaches as well. I am no coach and I still love Jim Tressel to death, but something needs to change and now. Whether it's shakign up the offensive play-calling or working on these kids psyches in a different way, I don't know. What I do know is that OSU was in it right up until Maualuga's TD. After that.... man, I couldn't believe how wrong I was about this team.

Crap. I hadn't heard that. Even though I was pullign for Purdue, I really feel for you guys, because of all the QB injury troubles you've had the past two seasons.

All you have to do is see how prepared and psyched Carroll and Co were to see that they believed they were playing a quality opponent. And they were. Problem is I think that even though talent levels are comparable, the coaching approach doesn't seem to be, and I'm not sure what to do about that. OSU has stumbled badly when the spotlight was at its brightest for sure... but not always. The national title in 2003, the Michigan win in 2006, the Michigan win last year. All three were pressure packed situations and high profile in their media scrutiny, even if Michigan was not the Michigan of past years.

Needless to say, all of Buckeye Nation is watching the team with intense eyes and ears, right now. The season isn't over yet, even if some Buckeye fans are overreacting. But even the most rabid fan can't deny that something isn't working.

The OSU should have lost to Ohio, and would have if the Bobcats' special teams had managed a decent game.
No argument here, especially when some of the OSU players themselves feel that way.

Agreed completely. Right now, I'm even concerned about the MIchigan game, even if it is in Columbus.

Here's an interesting question: If Georgia (or, frankly, any SEC team) runs the table, do they deserve to vault over an unbeaten USC, considering the schedules?

They definitely deserve to play them, given that USC finishes undefeated.

They scored the same number of points in a road game. The difference is the opponent they played.

Auburn manages a field goal at Mississippi State, Ohio State manages a field goal at USC. The reason Auburn could win with just a field goal is because of who they were playing. Mississippi State isn't beating anyone.

I was jokin', dude.

We don't really know anything about Auburn other than the fact they can shut down an inept offense like MSU's.

USC, to their credit, has put a whuppin' on a team with five-star talent.

I'd bet that Auburn's defense can shut down a better offense than MSU. Auburn's offense, on the other hand....

I agree, but ... if the loss to USF this time last year is any indication, mobile quarterbacks will give 'em problems.

Auburn's offense, on the other hand....

They're lulling the SEC into a false sense of security—you know, not showing the league anything until they need it.

After all, they didn't even need a touchdown three days ago.
