NBA Playoffs - 2009

Well, Portland is done for the year now but that's OK. They had a good season and managed to take the Rockets to six games. Next year they'll do even better.

The Bulls-Celtics series is legendary. Game 6 was amazing, but it's been that way EVERY GAME, except Game 3.

The defensive plays by Noah and Rose at the end of the 3rd OT were phenomenal.

Pffft... I'm right there with you as far as the Bulls are concerned. I was a big Cavaliers fan when MJ was doing his darnedest to get the entire city of Cleveland to commit group suicide.

I have got to say that Ray Allen has been the MAN in this series. Even when he was lacking in production the first game and a half... he kept firing away and hasn't stopped since. The only black mark against him lately was that elbow to Varajeo's groin, but that was weeks ago.

And Derrick Rose ... someone do a DNA check. He cannot be that young and still play that insanely well. He makes some young mistakes but really not that many. Rose was the one who kicked the Bulls in the butt during those last three minutes of regulation.

I felt so bad for Kirk Hinrich when he missed that layup late in OT#3.

And just when the Bulls looked liek they had it wrapped up back came the Celtics.....

Damn FINE series... and it isn't even over yet!

Bulls Bulls Bulls Bulls Bulls Bulls Bulls!

Sorry, just getting ready for tonight's game. :D

I see Bulls coming out on top. The Celtics are tired and on fumes, and the bench is problematic to say the least.
Excuses.

Last season in the playoffs, the Lakers were missing their starting center and a key frontcourt bench player (like the C's), and made it all the way to the NBA Finals after going through three 50 win teams to get there.

Anything could happen, of course, but I predict the Celtics will win this one fairly easily. They have two franchise players in Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, whereas the Bulls' big guns Ben Gordon and Derrick Rose are just too unreliable. Heck, remember the end of Game 5 when Derrick Rose had serious problems driving to the hoop without falling down and turning the ball over?

Meh.

The lakers lost when it mattered the most because of their deficiencies that year, against a team centered around defense, whose focal point is not present this year.
Boston's inconsistency in its defensive play against a seventh seed in the playoffs is only a marker of that.

I wonder how the Lakers would do without Kobe, or Cleveland without Lebron...

Great series regardless if the Celtics lose or not...

[EDIT]
My jinx on the Bulls worked, so whle looking like a buffoon, I can sleep well tonight. :)

Great effort by the Bulls, but teams that live by the perimeter jump shot usually don't go far. If they could get a quality scoring big man, they might be able to take the next step.

I don't know, from what I observed, the Celtics were borderline a jump shooting team in this series as well (at least in spurts).

In the end, these teams were as evenly matched as I've seen in the playoffs. My hats off to the Bulls for slowly creeping up in the second half, but as you stated, a perimeter shooting team lives and dies on their field goal percentages, and it just didn't pan out for them.

Glad to see the C's advancing again, though they're going to be tired and playing without KG.

I'm greedy. I want a 1-2-3 of championships from the Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox in '09. ;)

Garnett's absence is a much bigger blow than Bynum's. And the C's don't have a Pau Gasol to slide over and take the missing spot.

Did you miss the point purposely? The Lakers made it to the Finals without their starting center and key frontcourt bench player. Didn't say they won it. So I don't want to hear about the Celts being tired and on fumes. You play with what you got without whinning.

If your point is that the Lakers were, and are, a better team than the Celts with Gasol and Bynum in the lineup, then you may be right, since the Celts have never beaten that team.

Looks as if Houston came to play, pulling off the upset in Game 1 last night. Yao was rather funny in his post-game comments, saying he'd just learned that word, "upset".

Did you miss my point purposely? The Lakers reached the Finals in a relatively weaker conference that year against a number of teams that the Lakers have traditionally had past success against. In other words, it wasn't that stellar of an achievement.

In addition, the loss of Garnett and to a lesser extent, Powe, is more substantial to the Celtics as our roster isn't exactly deep in talent.

Anyways, quit whining about my whining. It's fun, even more so if it's getting on your nerves.

My point was that Garnett's talent and the difference he makes to his team far exceeds Bynum. And especially with he loss of Powe, the C's have no front court depth. They have no other big man that comes close to a Gasol or Odem to fill their missing big man's shoes.
