NBA Offseason

If memory serves, wasn't he 'traded' to the Wizards in the Jamison deal?

Yup, it was one of those wink and look the other way deals that will more than likely no longer be allowed in the next CBA. We traded Z and a draft pick to the Wizards for Jamison. The Wizards bought Z out and we resigned him. His first game back after the trade was crazy, he really was a fan favorite. Hope he has fun in Miami.

Wow. I guess everyone should realize old rivalries don't matter as much (Allen Iverson wearing a Bill Russell jersey tipped it off for me). But Shaq is an iconic Laker and that's one rivalry that is still going at the moment (of course, he might actually be doing that for revenge/attention, so it might have actually influenced his decision).

It's hard to cheer for any team not named Heat, Celtics, or Lakers these days.

As a Raptors fan, I'm finding it hard to give a damn.

As a Sixers fan, all I have to do is look for improvement. I plan to look for said improvement by checking on their stats every couple of weeks. I don't plan on watching their games on TV unless I lack something better to do.

Yeah, the league has very little parity at the moment. Only a couple teams have more than a snowball's chance in hell of winning at the moment.

Wow, so now the Celtics have added another creaky old guy to their collection of creaky old guys. I foresee them getting upset in an early round of the playoffs by someone younger.

We in Cleveland are in the same boat, at least we have the Indians..oh damn, well we do have the Browns....doh!

And he's gonna have to start until Perkins comes back. I can't imagine him playing more than 20 minutes a game.

He's good for clogging the lane and committing 6 fouls on your big man at this point, but not a game changer anymore.

The Celtics will either go back to the fountain of youth for one more big run, or look like they're 50. There's no middle ground with that team.

I'm an Orlando fan, and this move doesn't worry me too much. Then again I wasn't worried about Boston in the playoffs last year and look where that got me.

Is Shaq the new Rickey Henderson? Good enough to still play past his prime but not good enough to stick with a team? Well Shaq have like 12 teams on his resume by the time he retires?

Way to stab Laker Nation in the back Shaq. Celtics suck ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really? I think Shaq stabbed Laker Nation in the back so much with his comments following his trade to Miami that there really is nothing he can do now that causes me to even raise an eyebrow. Better Boston than us. We were looking for a big man man on the cheap too.

There is evidence he may already be screwing with that great Celtic chemistry. There are reports that Kendrick Perkins had no comment on Shaq's hiring and Shaq, bless his divisive little heart, failed to mention Perk when listing the Celtic teammates he looked forward to playing with. The two had gone to war last season in the playoffs when the C's eliminated the Cavs. The Big Unworthy can carry a grudge.

Since his trade from the Lakers, every team without sufficient help has failed miserably after after acquiring Shaq. Good luck Celts.

Who has he played for? The Heat and the Cavs, right? I'd say that's 50-50 for his post-Laker experience.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Problem with that team is he changed the dynamic too much. They were a run and gun team and Shaq can't do the former.

The point is that it still seems that teams think that at some point, the old rampaging Shaq will show up and THAT Shaq is gone forever. He has done more damage to teams since leaving the Lakers than good.

Even with the Heat, that team had a great back up center in Alonzo Mourning and Kobe-like player to carry the team in Dwayne. Consequently, they won a championship. The Cavs only had a "star" player in LeBron and no "real" low post player offensively or defensively, and the Suns had neither.

I think the Celts with Shaq are in even bigger trouble. They are a little like the Suns offensively in that their offense works best when their point guard gets into the lane. Well, that is where Shaq instinctively sets up - bringing along his big ass and his defender. This clogs the lane and cuts down on the room for another player.

It also remains to be seen how Shaq will respond to being a bench player. But this presumes that Kendrick Perkins is going to come back healthy at some point in the season. If he does not (and I think he will), and Shaq stays No. 1, then I think the Celts will be in trouble with Shaq in the playoffs.
