NBA Discussion - The Stretch Run

Wow, Celtics clinched it on the road! I wanted this to happen, but I didn't think it would. There hasn't been a Celtics-Lakers Finals since I was 9 years old. I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm only sorry that it won't be played in the Forum and the old Garden.

This will not be a cakewalk for the Lakers, to put it mildly.

No, it will not.

Frankly, even as a die hard fan, I'm surprised they got this far. Especially after Bynum went down.

It would be nice to face Boston with the front three of Gasol, Bynum, and Odom.

Fisher has been a great presence, and a big help.

Well, the Forum is still around... it's a Mega-Church now!

Game 5... June 15th. :)

I think that the Lakers will have to be favored tho. They defeated two tough teams in the Spurs and Jazz... The C's have had problems with the Hawks and Cavs.

Time to hang another banner in Los Angeles.

Frankly, I think the Lakers are OK, and will give a fight, but I honestly think they are doomed. They have a great team, great coach, and great history, but there's one thing I can't respect: Kobe Bryant. And something tells me that when he's not hitting shots, the team will go down quickly.

That, and I think the Big Three will come through and win the Finals.

Celtics in 6.

^ Vegas agrees. I think it'll be tougher than that, a lot tougher.

Although I do think Garnett lacks the killer instinct. The guy spends the first three quarters cursing his brains out, acting like a tough guy, then in the closing minutes of close games he turns in to a meek church mouse hoping his teammates bail him out. He's not that way in every close out game or clincher, but he's been that way in too many to be considered a killer, going all the way back to his days in minnesota. But the Celts have enough talent for that to not be that much of a problem.

Well, Kobe has finished big games by clunking a 3 before, so a killer instinct has to be coupled with smart play.

I think Gasol and Odom will have to be extremely consistent and aggressive to offset Garnett and Paul Pierce.

It'll come down to bench play, and although the Lakers may be "smarter", I think the Celtics as a team are "tougher".

One of the other x-factors in the Finals is that the 2-3-2 format, I think, slightly favors the team without HCA.

The format almost forces the team with HCA to win a game on the road because no team can afford to lose 3 in a row to a team even if the team with HCA wins both the first two game at home. Putting yourself in an elimination game scenario coming back home to play game 6 is always bad.

The Lakers not having HCA in the Finals definitely does not suck.

Celtics will win the series 4 games to 2. I'm really glad it's against the Lakers, though. Been far too long since the last Celtics-Lakers Finals. Time for that long-belated 17th championship banner to go up along with all the others in Boston. :bolian:

Should be a fun series, and certainly gives the NBA the exposure it's been looking for.

Though, it's not the 80's, and these teams aren't as fun to watch as those two teams were.

Lakers in 6

Beat LA! :p

Seriously, this is going to be fun...like the '80s all over again.

Jack Nicholson is a secret admirer of the Celts? He did yell out once: you can't handle The Truth! :D

Can someone post a Boston Celtics Logo now to even things out? I know I'm rooting for the Celts since I hate the lakers and can't stand most Laker fans.
