Naveen Andrews in a Law & Order spin-off?

Just watched the new L&O:SVU episode tonight.

Naveen Andrews (Sayid from Lost) was a guest on it, but he got a lot of screen time and background. Much more then you would think usual for a guest spot.

It felt to me that they were possibly setting him up for a spin-off series involving Fraud, Highend and other white collar crimes. it wouldn't necessarily have to follow the L&O pattern or style, but a new cop show dealing with those types of crimes.

With Lost ending this season Naveen might be looking for another tv show to work on, and you can bet networks and series are going to be all over trying to cast the Lost actors for new shows because their popularity and recognition factor is very high right now.

Any word on if this is actually happening? Would you want to watch a show like that?

Funny thing is that actually the sort of thing the Major Case squad does in NYC i.e in reality Goren & Co wouldn't be investigating murders.

If they must make a new show set in L.A., call it something else. L&O = New York. There's no way around that. Moving to L.A. would kill the whole premise. It'd be like having a Batman film set in Saskatchewan.

Law & Order UK is only interesting to me because I know so little about the British judicial system. That and Freema Agyeman and Jamie Bamber. So far I've enjoyed the show but I wish they would use original scripts instead of remaking scripts from the original series.

How exactly is a New York setting special? There's nothing unique about that. Setting a show in Boise would be different.

I don't know. I cop series investigating high-end crime could be interesting. They wouldn't have to even follow the L&O format or even use the L&O name in the title. Just have it set in the same shared L&O universe with the occasional crossover for ratings would be fine by me.

Maybe try something different and have story arcs, investigations that take 2 to 3 or 5 or 6 episodes to solve, maybe even involving some undercover stuff, and with only one main character you could also have personal storylines and find out more about him, something traditional L&O series have stayed away from.

I really think it could be a good show if done right, and not just another standard L&O spin-off like the other ones have been. And if they can nab Naveen Andrews to star as their main character even better. He's popular, attractive, got a built in fan base, he's a good actor and they've already set up an interesting character for him.

I'd like them to go for it.

I'm pretty sure that's actually a restriction placed upon the series, rather than a creative choice...
