NASCAR 2009 Season + F1, NHRA, IRL ect.

Been to Phoenix 3x and Vegas once myself.

Nothing quite equals the energy at the race. It's almost impossible to describe.

Been to Phoenix; 3 X 1988, 1994, 1995
Charlotte; Once in 1998 ( for the 'Winston & the 600)
Vegas; Once in 2003. watching the truck race right now

I use to watch NASCAR all the time but since the Race for the Chase started and the car of tomorrow I've lost interest. I'm lucky if I watch 50 laps all year long now.

I do still try to make it to several NHRA races every year though. Houston is just over one month away.

Oh I know what you mean. All card look the same now. There are teams with 4 cars....+ alliances, partnerships ect.

I still watch every race.

Newman's tire just blw out at practice and he took Stewart out. BRING OUT THE BACK UPS:wtf: Newmans going to be on his third.

Good God, what's going on with Newman's cars? :wtf:

Well, I hate country music and I am very white collar so I don't fit the sterotypical NASCAR fan.

You've gotta be kidding me. Almost every NASCAR fan I know is a white-collar northeastern professional like me. That stereotype is pretty old now. I don't listen to country and I swear by foreign cars. SO THERE!
Now, as to 2008, my heart is pulling for Mark Martin to take it all. I've been a huge Juan Pablo Montoya fan since his IndyCar days so he's always on my list. I'd also like to see Robby Gordon do the impossible and win a race with his own team. I like his fierce independence.
The Tommy Baldwin Racing story is pretty good, too. As is Tony Stewart and his new team. I'd like to see "Smoke" contend.
Unfortunately, I fear it will be an all Jimmie Johnson/Carl Edwards snoozefest again.

Have you ever been to a race in the South? Charlotte and Darlington define the stereotype. Daytona's about half-and-half.

My brother was and still is a huge Kyle Petty fan, Mello Yello era being the best days to be a fan:).

With the end of Petty Enterprises and the new "Richard Petty Motorsports" Kyle Petty seems to be very very very bitter. He bashes the merger and rips it apart. He pretty much is giving his father the finger. He wears a hat with the #45 crossed out (I am fine with that since it was Adam's number) but He complains about the #44 having his Arca scheme. Kyle says he will not be at the track for the 500 and will not watch it at home. He has distanced himself in the most public way from his father and Ray & Jim.

I never cared much for Kyle, he just wasn't the same caliber of racer as his father. Petty racing now has nowhere to go except up.

true. I don't consider Dale Jr as the same caliber as his father.

QFT!

clearly he is as talanted but he is isn't as agressive, though rules today don't allow for half the shit Dale Senior pulled, junior tends to be more of a team player and is willing to settle for a top 5. That is also a huge problem with Mark Martin, I love the guy and no one deserves a 500 win + a championship more than him but he is too kind, polite and a gentleman on the track. He will have a hard time winning the championship when you have guys like Stewart, Edwards, Kyle Bush, and Johnson who will bump you, pass you high or low and even give it their all and scrap the wall to win.

Yeah, I was hoping that Mark would bump Harvick out of the way in 2007, but that's just not his style. He'll get at least one more with this year, though. God, I'd love it to be today.

But is he the greatest driver never to win a championship? No. I think that (lack of) honor has to go to Junior Johnson, with Fireball Roberts and Mark being second and third.

agreed.

My 2009 predictions, Chasers & dark horses, the rookies?

CHASE Contenders:
Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, Kyle Bush, Greg Biffle, Brian vickers, Kevin Harvick.

Bubbles:
Dale Earnhardt Junior, Ryan Newman, Jeff Burton, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, Kurt Bush, Truex jr

Dark Horse: A.J. Allmendinger

The Rookies:

*Joey Logano - I do not feel that Joey is ready for the sprint cup series and I am not exspecting much from this kid. He may win a pole this this season, that wouldn't surprise me and he may be running up front for alot of the races this season but I am predicting an average finish of 25th for Sliced Bread. I honestly think he will have troubble keeping above the top 35 in owners points.

*Scott Speed - I think he is ready for the cup series, hes an acomplished driver in various fields and though he may not be quite as "talanted" as Logano I do see a reasonable future in the 09 season for Mr. Speed. He won't be up front as often as Logano will be and he may just hang mid to back of the pack for most all the races but He will do close to equal to Lagano with average finish. Like Logano, Speed will have a fight to stay in the top 35 of owners points.

Rookie of the year:
It will be a close one. However, I predict Scott Speed for the 2009 Rookie of the Year.

Other notes:
+Watch out for Allmendinger, he is a force to keep an eye on!

+Brian Vickers he will be on fire this season, no not like Kyle Bush fire but still hott! He will either be on the bubble or MAKE THE CHASE.

+Bill Eliott, with the wood brothers only racing a few selected races and with Bill's performance in 500 qualifying...beware of Awsome Bill.

- Logano, I see a bad moon a rising! This kid is going to be facing a rough rookie year but he has is one third of a great team. However, even the experiance + guidance of Denny hamlin and Kyle Bush can save the #20 from being a paintless dented and damaged target on the track.

- Dale Jr, a good year over all but he will not be a force in the chase, he could make it but he won't be anywhere near to winning it.

Since I'm feeling ill today I might just sit down and watch the BIG race. I'll be rooting for Mark and or Tony to win. My first pick is Mark but would settle for Tony.

I posted a loooooooong prediction on Facebook and LJ. Here it is for your reading pleasure: http://brotherflounder.livejournal.com/69452.html

I think that Logano and Speed will both struggle this season, especially early on. I can see Speed having at least one victory (he's good) and I wouldn't be surprised to see Logano get a victory in the latter half of the year. But neither one will come close to making the Chase.

The Chase:
Champion - Jimmie Johnson
Dark Horse - Jeff Burton
Contenders - Edwards, Bowyer, Ragan, Smoke, Gordon, Junior, Martin,
Bubble - Biffle, Hamlin (in); Harvick, Kyle Busch, Kahne, Montoya (out)

I'm looking forward to this race. NASCAR does a great job building up the excitement for the Daytona 500, but then things start going south. I may watch some other races this season, but the Daytona 500 feels very different from any other race of the year. Being a casual fan who was really disappointed with some of NASCAR's stuff last year (The travesty in Fontana by not calling it sooner, the goodyear mess in Atlanta, the Brickyard ruined, too many commercials during the Infinion Race, and just all around boring races) at least the Daytona 500 has all the excitement still. Hopefully they don't ruin that too.

Mother nature may hurt us today:(
LETS GO Dinger!

While I will watch nascar and root for jr and tony,I prefer NHRA (IHRA seems like a junior league) drag racing and have been to some national events.. Nothing like hearing and feeling 7000 hp nitromethane burning Hemi's in person

Well I decided to watch the Daytona 500 and that had to be the lamest
finish ever. I was sitting there with 48 laps to go waiting for them to restart
then I hear fireworks and the random guy who was still upfront because of
a caution wins? Last year's was way better.

Oh well, F1 and IRL are much more entertaining anyways.

Bleagh. What a horrible finish to the race.

And I think I lost all respect for Junior after that interview. NOTHING was his fault, according to him. Dude, even if you're not going to admit you wrecked Vickers (which you DID and every single reporter covered your sorry ass), admit that you screwed up on pit road TWICE. "Oh, everyone's sign is pink!" "Oh, they should change the rule about pitting inside the box!" Dude! Take some fucking responsibility. At least when your old man pulled this shit, he admitted it.
