Nasa tests 'WARP DRIVE' engine that could carry passengers to the moon

Re: Nasa tests 'WARP DRIVE' engine that could carry passengers to the

Currently, they're talking about milli-g's of acceleration. That's thousandths of a g. Pretty weak thrust. More online with an ion drive right now.

Overtime, the lack of need for propellant would allow for good potential speeds but, even then, you're talking decades of acceleration to get anywhere near 10% C.

Any decently effective fusion based drive (Inertial Confinement or the like) would be able to accelerate a load at around 1 g or so. Much more practical for interstellar travel, so long as the fuel holds out...

So, if this propulsion system, which won't work, were hooked up to a fusion power source, which doesn't exist, then we would have useful interstellar travel. Good to know.

Fusion propulsion is not the same as fusion power...

I'm sure that, if there is anyone of any intelligence living among the nearby stars, they are thinking "Well, there goes our quiet neighborhood and property values..."

I don't relish seeing cigarette butts on the ground on the moon or someone's throw up on the ground on Mars.
