Narada

There was talk of an animated series but it fell through. Start Trek was considered too complex or a crtoon series and was kept in the human acting.

Sounds like bollocks to me. Do you have any links or news stories pertaining to that.

I find the notion that Star trek is "too complex" for animation to be ludicrous.

On another note, the reasons for no animation series may be partly due to the failure of the original animated series. But that is just a guess.
Back in late 2006, we heard about and saw artwork for a new animated series. Involved were David Rossi, who had worked on several of the previous Trek series and on the TOS "remastering" project, and Doug Mirabello, who was on the Enterprise team. After initial interest was expressed by CBS following the cancellation of Enterprise, some stories and art were developed, but as of November 2008 the project was still waiting for a green light.

I think part of the issue with the show was timeframe. It was supposed to take place even FURTHER in the future with the Federation breaking down around the crew of the new Enterprise. Not only was it a rip on another certain sci fi show (which it's self was originally intended as a possible Trek show by Gene though it ended up being thrown aside for decades before his death.) but for a cartoon, IS pretty heady.

or there could have been a clash and the romulans just kept it under wraps.
we do know as far back as the neutral zone in tng that the borg were interested in both the federation and romulan outposts.

That works! The Romulans could find Borg technology along or inside the Neutral Zone and spend two decades working on it. Eventually Nero and his ilk get their hands on the result of those years of experimentation and the Narada is the final product. I've never been able to buy that the Empire suddenly got all nicey-nice and warm hugs with the Federation after Shinzon's defeat anyways. It's still an imperial, militaristic society plagued by centuries of distrust. Even a far more cooperative or even reformist Praetor and Senate would probably fund supersecret research on things the Federation would find dangerous and threatening.

Agreed. And I dunno how much stake I'd put in the Borg enhancements and a Romulan-Borg clash having happened since NEMESIS and VOYAGER since Janeway did almost-catastrophic damage to the collective and its transwarp conduit network when Voyager returned home. And this is the first I've seen or heard even in comic/non-canon form of the collective having resurged and attacked another power in our section of the galaxy since 2377-78.

Now a Romulan scientist or ship finding Borg technology and nanoprobes in a crashed sphere or cube and using them? I can see that with no qualms or issues.

I didn't say the Collective had resurged, the queen is dead. What I said was:
3.Current Project
'Collective' Project
The wreckage of a Borg SPhere type 2 was discovered just inside Romulan territory, base experts have deduced from the salvaged technolgy and drones that the Sphere had been caught in a transwarp corridor which collapsed when Voyager managed to destroy one of the five transwarp hubs in the galaxy in 2378. The debris were immediatly, 'quarurantined' by the Senate's order. Only after numerous pleas and proposed studies has the Borg debris beeing moved to the Forge for anyalsis and reverse engineering with particular attention payed to the nanoprobe technology and it's possible uses.

You cannot keep a battle with the Borg a secret. Starfllet Inteligence and Section 31 would know for one thing with it's agents in Romulan space. In TNG they didn' know about the Borg.

evidently they didnt know everything in romulan space considering how certain things went down in tng.

that a vulcan ambassador was actually a romulan spy, the romulan involvement
in the klingon civil war and a lot of other stuff.

sorry i just dont see the federation knowing about every small incident that might have happened within the romulan empire.
we dont even have to be talking about a war but a confined conflict to a small sector of romulan space.

as for section 31 knowing how they operate in ds9 they might have heard of it and kept it under wraps for their own reasons.

but the borg were also sniffing around the romulan outposts in the neutral zone.

The news of a Borg attack in Romulan space would be BIG news.
They would notice the sudden massive change in Romulan deployment and there's Starfleet intelligence.
It would get out get out, (see Neurtal Zone and the distress calls from the ecploded moon of PRAXIS that got ourt despite the Klingon councils efforts of censor).

The Empire would not be able to gag every ship captain alonfg the neutral zone border, and if the Federation had trouble against the Borg at Wolf 359 with that massive fleet of ships, the Romulan with their aging D'deriox class warbirds would be just as useless as the Federation fleet was. The Enterprise only survive because it eneterd eth fight alot klater on. (See: TNG Best Of Both Worlds, and DS9: Emmisary and First Contact).

Them finding Borg debris is alot more sensible solution hence why I used it. :)
