Name your imponderables for Star Trek

You know it's fiction and fantasy, right?

My pet peave (sic) is people who complain about how stuff isn't perfect, and misspell words in the process. ;)

Huh. What's that you were saying just a little while ago about axes and grinding?

Because I've got pots and kettles coming to mind now, for some reason. I can't imagine why. ;)

Did Neelix, Kes, Spock, Kira, Odo etc learn English (or Standard) or was their speech constantly being translated? What about when they didn't wear a combadge?

Weren't UT's implants at this point? I'm thinking of Quark, Rom and Nog smacking their ears in "Little Green Men".
Why is it, when they ARE using a translator, we don't see lips out of sync or hear two voices speaking at the same time like we should?

Because the translator translates our visual perception as well. To match. So it doesn't look dumb.
There are problems with this explanation but I like it anyway, primarily because the idea that the UT built into comm badges has the ability to manipulate photons to edit visuals would go a little way toward explaining how Worf could use one to make a forcefield in "A Fistful of Datas". ;)

I still snigger everytime someone says they're going down a manhole :D
I snigger at the Airline term "Cockpit." Especially with all of those lovely stewardesses walking in and out of it, all of the time. Sometimes bowlegged ...

That's the reason I switched my B.J.s membership to Sam's Club. My wife would give me a dirty look every time I said "How about B.J.s?" till she caught on.

I think it was just Ferengi who used them IIRC.

If the Delta Flyer can barely fit through Voyager's shuttlebay doors, how on earth did the 2x-wider ship from "Drive" ever fit inside?

And where the heck were they keeping Neelix's ship for seven years?

If they don't have replicators, how the hell did they whip up a Nazi uniform for McCoy so quickly?

And managed to screw up the easiest part.

1. Why do Starfleet vessels almost always enter a planet's orbit in its northern hemisphere?

2. Why doesn't the lighting aboard a starship change to simulate day and evening conditions?

3. Why do non-human races have nearly identical appearances (haircuts, skin color, etc.)?

4. Why do Starfleet officers not carry knives or other cutting weapons, given that Klingons, Romulans, and Andorians (pre-Federation) frequently employed their own?

5. Given the hazardous environments they're often forced to work in, why do Starfleet officers not use skin and eye protection? Are there no hats in the twenty third or fourth centuries?

Heh. Scotty didn't even have any glasses when he was in that tube during "That Which Survives" did he?

Kirk: "Patch historical computer into uniform section."

I think McCoy's Nazi uniform was produced by the same machine aboard the Enterprise that makes Starfleet uniforms for the officers and crew.
