Clue # 9
The character using me, is standing up.
The character using me, is standing up.
Alas not, Henoch!
Clue # 10
I never used one before, not even when at school. Not sure if I was too late for their use, or whether it was more an American device, than a British one.
Yeah no worries. My phone isn't the best, so perhaps you could collate all the clues in a post, and I'll do the reveal, briefly explaining each clue? How about ending this? Great job, great clues, you've stumped us. Time for another object game.
KIRK: A lighting panel.
SPOCK: Amazing in this culture.
REGER: Comes from a time before Landru.
KIRK: Before Landru? How long ago was that?
REGER: Nobody knows positively. Some say as long ago as six thousand years.
SPOCK: It took a very advanced technology to construct a device like this. Inconsistent with this environment
KIRK: But not inconsistent with what we've seen.
I guess you could argue they used the tools (i.e. the pencils) that were around them, even though they are really redundant to the problem-solving going on, so yeah 1 and 2 were perhaps a bit cryptic. In any event, Kirk may have simply asked Miri to sharpen the pencils to distract her.Cryptic indeed! But a good game as it lasted a very long time! well clue #1 & #2 threw me off! I mean Kirk and gang don't use the pencil sharpener, Miri uses it on her home planet, with pencils found in that room, and since she knew how to use it, she must have used it before! What else would you sharpen a pencil with if asked? Nothing more technical needed?? Were pencils or writing implements used by the crew in other episodes??, Kirk uses a stylus to sign his order tablet, who says pencils/pens are not around in the 23rd century?
Great, thanks ItsGreen!
And no, alas not the lighting panel Henoch.
And I can tell you, finally, after all this time, that the object in question was...
The wall-bound pencil sharpener that Miri uses!
On screen for only a few seconds, but something interesting enough to use for a guess!
So, here's the clues:
Clue # 1 One wonders why this object was actually needed, given the technical advances of our heroes.
Given the technical equipment Spock and McCoy are using, do they really need a 20th Century pencil sharpener?
Clue # 2 One wonders why the objects associated with it, were actually needed, given the technical advances of our heroes.
Again, given they could as easily beam down pads, (if they even needed them, which they don't) do they really need pencils? I don't see even Kirk or Rand use 'em, let alone our science boys.
Clue # 3 I'm used by only one person, and not by any of the regulars.
Miri
Clue # 4 I guess you could say I am an antique of sorts.
Certainly not something we use now, or anything I recall seeing in my life.
Clue # 5 I'm used, and then upon request, used a little more.
Miri sharpens some pencils, then Kirk says they could use a few more.
Clue # 6 My location is planet-bound.
Earth Number Two
Clue # 7 I am used in one particular location, but its possible another of me is present in another location on the planet.
Any other labs, but I was particularly thinking probably the school room we see.
Clue # 8 I'm not used by anyone whose occupation fits the room I am in.
Miri, a young woman of no scientific training, uses the contraption in a room dedicated to scientists.
Clue # 9 The character using me, is standing up.
Yep.
Clue # 10 I never used one before, not even when at school. Not sure if I was too late for their use, or whether it was more an American device, than a British one.
Yeah, this was referring to me. Maybe someone could answer my above musing..? All I used were those of the handheld kind.
Clue # 11 I don't make a ringing sound, or metallic, nor electronic even. You would find such a similar sound in a 'workshop'.
This was in response to someone thinking it was a bell. The grinding sound as the pencil is sharpened is reminiscent of a sound you would hear coming from a workshop.
And that's it folks! Sorry if I was too cryptic, but I hope you enjoyed it!
So what happens now? Does someone else want to have a go?
@Methuselah FlintI have used pencil sharpeners in school in the USA but before the era of present day students. And there was a wall mounted pencil sharpener in the apartment that I lived in from 1992 until 2012, and I sometimes used it to sharpen pencils.
