Name That STAR TREK Episode...

The Changeling?
1. Offended by Nomad's mistaken identity of Kirk as Roykirk.
2. Deflector shields snapped on to save the ship from Nomad's surprise attack.
SULU: Captain, shields just snapped on. Something heading in at multiwarp speeds.

"Trouble with Tribbles"

1. Another episode where Kirk could be offended by many things, although in a less serious context.

2. Tribbles are infalible "Klingon detectors"

Bingo!

1) Kirk could have been offended that Scotty didn't defend him as keenly as he defended his ship against the Klingon's insults.
2) That's it.

Your turn.

Good try but no.

The Gamesters Of Triskelion?
1. Kirk and crew were exercising/training under a trinary sun system. Looked hot and dry.

They were a bit parched there, but I'm thinking of a different episode.

Clue #2 I'm surprised Spock did not stop using his standard Vulcan greeting after meeting the villain in this episode.

No, not Mudd and his posse.

Clue #3 With two alpha-males fighting like the ancient Greeks, one can only wonder how this episode should end, or be named.

Clue #1

Some crew members seem a little parched in this episode.

That Which Survives

1. This is a matter of survival, gentlemen. Without the Enterprise, we need food, and we need water, and we need them fast. I want a detailed analysis made of this planet, and I want it now.

No, not "That which survives". I'll give Henoch a chance to see the 3rd clue before I post the 4th. But, I'll give a hint on clue 3 to ponder in the mean time.

Clue 3 hint: Any christian reading this clue might have a slight advantage making sense of it.

Okay, I'll bite. Amok Time.
1. Hot as Vulcan.
2. Villain is T'Pring.
3. Alpha-males are Kirk and Spock. Maybe the title should be Awoke Time to symbolize both Spock waking up from being in heat and Kirk waking up from death? :rommie:

Logical ... Flawlessly logical.

... but wrong

Still, a very good guess.

Clue #4. I wonder ... what rank does a person needs to attain to truly be an alpha-male? And, why do we call him an alpha? It comes from the Greeks, but why alpha? Why not use the word for one.? I've heard that envious contemporaries of Eratosthanes used to call him beta, to say he was second best in the world at everything. I wonder what they would call that guy who is the worst at everything? I digress, but I would not want to be that guy. Fortunately there is nobody like that in this episode.

Greek, greek, greek...plus your side comment on christianity:
Who Mourns For Adonis?
KIRK: Mankind has no need for gods. We find the one quite adequate.
You can't get anymore alpha male than a greek god.

The answers are so good, even when they are wrong. Gods are even beyond rank or alpha status.

Clue #5 A battle for truth should only be between equals.

Whom Gods Destroy

I believe Lord Garth fancied himself more than a mere mortal, and many of those clues would fit the Kirk vs Kirk battle at the end.

Yet another good guess Marsden. That does fit very well. Still not the one I'm thinking of. I thought that last clue would clinch it, but you found another good fit.

Clue #6 it seems many episodes end with a battle. The beginning is calm and it ends with a battle. Beginning and end, beginning and end. How many times? It's hard to know the last number. Maybe that why the Greeks used letters sometimes. Like A to Z..

Let's do a clue review with some hints added.

Clue #1 Some crew members seem a little parched in this episode.

Hint: Consider that words often have more than one meaning. The crew members in question are not thirsty. There is another meaning of "parched". Some people think that meaning comes from the word "parchment" which is a dried skin useful for writing on. Whether that derivation is true or not, is not of any consequence to us. But the different meaning is critical to this clue.

Clue #2 I'm surprised Spock did not stop using his standard Vulcan greeting after meeting the villain in this episode.

Hint: I hardly need to tell you Spock's standard Vulcan greeting is "Live long and prosper", but maybe seeing it written will help you. What villain tried to live long and prosper and might make Spock wonder if commanding people to undertake these pursuits is a proper greeting or even an ethical one.

Clue #3 With two alpha-males fighting like the ancient Greeks, one can only wonder how this episode should end, or be named.

Previous hint: Any christian reading this clue might have a slight advantage making sense of it.

New hint: The obvious part of the clue is two alphas fighting, but I'm starting in this clue and and continuing in other clues to make you think of a well-known quote that is attributed to Jesus.

Hint: Yup, I'm continuing to do it. By the way, did you try to answer the question "What would they call they guy who was worst at everything?"

Clue #5 A battle for truth should only be between equals.

Hint: This is about the most straightforward clue one can give and Marsden was right on track with his answer, but unfortunately at least 2 episodes can fit this one. Well, one is now eliminated, so don't give up.

Clue #6 it seems many episodes end with a battle. The beginning is calm and it ends with a battle. Beginning and end, beginning and end. How many times? It's hard to know the last number. Maybe that why the Greeks used letters sometimes. Like A to Z.

Hint: Yup, I'm continuing to do it. There are only so many letters in the Greek alphabet you know.

I was avoiding taking over the game, but I guess I'd step up to the plate.

The Omega Glory
1. Parchment, as in the old Constitution document.
2. The servant of the evil one is shown in the Holy Book to look just like Spock.
3. Alpha males are Kirk and Tracey.
4. Their ranks are Captain.
5. They are both Captains, which makes it a battle of equals, but according to the Holy Book, good is stronger than evil.
6. The first letter of the Greek alphabet is Alpha and the last is Omega.

Very good. Home run for you Henoch. You are up.

1. I like your answer here better than mine, but I was referring to Tracey's crew that turned into salt. Basically, their bodies were dried out completely and only the solid minerals remained.

2. Again, I like your answer. But, I was just saying that Tracy's motivation was to find the secret of long life so that he would live long. And he wanted to also profit from the secret by selling it to the highest bidders. he told Kirk about this plan. So, he wanted to both live long and prosper. Didn't Spock think about that later? The motivation of "live long and prosper" became the evil plan of Capt. Tracey. In Spock's place, I would have changed the greeting to "I wish you long life and prosperity" and would not want to make the command "live long an prosper", in case you decide to obey me at all costs.

3. Yes exactly.

4. Yes, I wanted to make us think about the upper echelon of alpha-males. Spock is an alpha in many ways, but he is also a number 2 guy - i.e. the loyal and competent follower. I was just trying to narrow the range.

Also, I asked the question, what do we call the guy who is worst at everything. He would be an "omega" not an alpha or a beta.

5. Yes, exactly

6. Yes. I was trying to trigger the quote. "I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end". In hindsight, I should have realized that this quote would be obvious to some people and completely unknown to others, but once I started on this track, I felt compelled to keep riding on it. But, we have an episode with a Greek letter in its name, so I thought if I keep pounding this theme, it would click eventually,
