1. Spock gets invited to be Trelane's guest even though he dislikes him; Spock then sits through the dinner and entertainment.

Great guess on TIY, and that's it! (Although there is another ep that fits as well so I may run these clues again next time I'm lucky enough to be up.) The writers have Christopher misquote Spock ("no relevant contributions" versus "no relative contributions") and Spock rolls with it. Instead of remembering that he used quite a different word, he says "Poor choice of words on my part," even though actually he never said what Christopher claims.

Christopher, an O-3 pilot, gets a nice crisp Starfleet uniform in gold with an O-3 rank shown by the single stripe. I always appreciated this (apparent) attention to detail, although it probably wasn't a good idea to give a random dude from another time a uniform where he could actually order people around. We've seen before that not everyone on the crew knows one another.

Now, as to why you thought TIY was the answer . . . .
