Name that Game

It is not Wing Commander.

Here's a hint: it's one of the few space combat sims to use punishingly realistic Newtonian physics.

What we can see of the ship looks like the fighter from A/X-101, but I don't think the HUD looked like that...

Pretty sure Spacewar! circa 1960 (i.e. the first space combat sim and one of the first videogames of any kind) used realistic physics. :shifty:

Yeah, but the vast majority, even to this day, have used a more simplified model. I was just trying to narrow the field a bit.

Another hint: this was a DOS remake of what was originally an Amiga game.

I'm stumped. I've gone over every space sim I (and Wikipedia) can think of, and have come up with no matches.

I spoke too soon, I finally found it. XF5700 Mantis Experimental Fighter. Impressive choice, I'm gonna have to think a few to top that.

ETA: Okay, here we go, you may ignore the watermark in the lower right:

How'd you find it, Canadave? :D It was one of my favorite games as a teenager. Hard as hell, though.

I have no idea about the soccer game.

Lotsa Googling space sims, then looking up screens on MobyGames. I probably put way too much effort into it, realistically speaking...

^ That's certainly an influence, but it's not that. It kind of fills a niche subgenre when it comes to soccer games.

God, that game sucked.
It wasn't that bad, if they could have just gotten the character to tell their stories instead of getting Gondaft to do it for us, hired stand ins for the rest of the main actors instead of using soundbytes, reworked the plot slightly, not stuck you in big major events which you weren't in coughbalrogcough and got rid of the wtf end boss it would have been quite good imo.

Oh and new star soccer 3?

Ooo didn't expect to get another one, give me a few mins to find something to post, I'm sure It'll be pretty easy to it won't take up too much of your time ;)

The HUD looks familiar, and that building inside the walls. For some reason, I imagine that my brother played it many years ago, but that doesn't make sense as he doesn't play RTS games.

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, possibly?
Nope, my copy of that was scratched or something so I never got past the first basement

It is a few years old, but it doesn't seemto get mentioned by many people, at least not when I'm around.

Is it the Dungeons and Dragons RTS that came out a few years ago?
Gonna need a name I think. Even if other people don't, just 'cos I want to hold on to power that little bit longer ;)
