Not sure about other clues. "Improbable" could mean the odds that anybody in the engine room saw the problem in time. Not sure what the mild PTSD is.
Edit: I've got another guess that would make a lot of sense for all the clues, but I'll wait until my current guess is declared right or wrong.

The mild PTSD refers to Worf who had to deliver Keiko's baby and years later (DS9) got visibly upset at the idea of having to do it again!
The improbable was Deanna Troi who had to take over the bridge while being totally unprepared for it.
Data's head was removed, indeed!
The three people were the kids to whom Picard gave (temporary) promotions.

My other guess was Descent. Lore is dismantled, Data gets a form of PTSD over the result of emotions, Beverly gets to be captain.
