Seriously though, you have to wonder if they would be ballsy enough to go the James Bond and Batman way in titling. Probably not.

Seriously, this could work. They've sorta tried it in the past with The Voyage Home. I think I've read that in some European countries it was sold as The Voyage Home (with Star Trek IV in tiny print below it). They had a little recap of TWOK and TSFS before it to catch people up, but basically sold it as "goofy space/time travelers in America save the whales!"

Heck, you might even get some viewers that wouldn't ordinarily see a Star Trek movie, but might see a "space-adventure!" movie, depending on how well it was sold via trailers and TV spots.

Voyage of the Space Beagle

Look Who's Talking in space. Admiral Archer's pet finally rematerializes - with cosmic consequenes!

Well, how many Trekkies call TWOK "Star Trek 2" or even "Star Trek II"? 98% of Trekdom refers to the second Star Trek film as Wrath of Khan or Khan or TWOK.

Which is the only reason I wouldn't totally object to "Star Trek 2" because the number 2 versus the roman numeral II would be enough of a departure.

Plus, we're talking about TWOK as if it's even remembered by most non-fans. It's just not. It was 29 -- 30 by the time this next film comes out -- years ago.

I think they should call it "Star Trek 2: [Subtitle]" because just "Star Trek 2" or just "Star Trek: [Subtitle]" doesn't work -- it's not the "2nd ever" Trek film, and the just-subtitle was TNG's thing.

Unfortunately, though, sometimes people communicate using the spoken word.

Doesn't matter.

I've never been a Superman fan. I don't remember Superman II from 30 years ago. But I know it existed, and if a sequel to Superman Returns came out calling itself Superman 2, I'd wonder what the creators were smoking.
