Well, today my son made the Holy Sacrament Of First Holy Communion.
He attends a small Catholic school, and it was a really nice service. There are only 25 kids in his class, one of which is his cousin, my sister's daughter.
I had him wear a suit. He wanted to wear a tux, but I told him no, his suit was fine. "But Papi, everyone is going to be wearing a tux!" That is fine, they can wear tux, You are still wearing your suit.
He thought about it for a second, then he asked me if he could wear a tux at his next Sacrament? I thought about for a second, and told him not only can he wear one, it almost a requirement. (He has already been baptised, had confession, he was confirmed, and now recieved his first communion.)
So, if you are keeping score, there are only 3 Sacraments left, Holy Orders and/or Marriage, and anoiting of the sick. So unless he remains single, or becomes a priest, his next Sacrament should be Marriage.
ON the way over to service, we had a long drive ( We live 22 miles from his school/Church). I let him know that since we had only a few days notice that the event was this Saturday, we didn't have much planned out. On a side not, people were upset that we didn't get much notice. But, the teacher pointed out to the class schedule she passed out at the begginging of the year, as well as the monthly calender she passes out at the beggining of each month stated the date and time (But who really reads all that stuff) . So, we didn't have much planned, just some cake and ice cream and punch at the school cafeteria, with pictures with the priest and God Parents. Aftewards we went to my sister's house for lunch) she lives around the corner of the church.
I told him, that we can go any where he wants tomorrow, it is his day, and he can choose anywhere he wants. (Thinking he was going to pick a restaurant) He looks right at me and states "I want to visit Grandma in the cemetery"....man the tears just started pouring out.....
Well, I pulled the side of the road, and reached into my pocket, and pulled out a little box. He opened it up, and inside with a very nice Rosary and a little note. The note was written by my mother before she passed away. It said to give him the rosary for his First Holy Communion. We told him that when the doctor told her she was sick, she bought you this rosary, and told us to wait until for this event. He was just stunned, and gave me a great big hug.
At that moment, I could feel my mother was with us.......
